Heck, I'd love to get the 16-50 S lens right now - but on the NX300 it would look ridiculous and not ergonomically sound, and I just can't afford it right now. Which camera would you be using the lenses on?

I am looking to purchase the NX1. I don't have any Samsung cameras or lenses.

Heck, I would imagine getting the NX1 with 16-50S combo would be the thing you are looking for - but that would result in your lugging around a DSLR-sized outfit (heavy).

Yes. I currently own a Canon T2i and also an EOS M. I have not used by T2i in a while. I love carrying around the small EOS M, which is why I have some hesitation with the 600 gram 16-50 S lens. I have rented the Canon 17-55 and I did not like the 600 gram weight, but I am willing to accept that if needed.  I certainly do appreciate your response.

I think that shooting kids at low light you must use a flash. When I'm shooting my kids playing, I do use f4 and up with flash.

It is very easy to get out of focus pictures of kids playing with f 1.8 due to shallow depth of field.

Others have suggested the 45mm due to fast focusing, but if you use fast appertures you will have the dof problem.

I'm very happy with my 16-50 pz. I'm thinking about buying a good external flash.

Thanks, the flash makes sense, especially if I go with the 16-50 PZ.  I'm not a fan of the direct flash look, but I think if I get a powerful flash (e.g. Samsung 580 ---- 500 US dollars though!) and use bounce flash on ceiling, I'll be happier with the look.  I do have a flash stand and umbrella, but that is not practical with subjects moving all over and hard to set up.

Have we seen any samples from the 16-50 PZ mounted on the NX1? I wonder if it can handle ultra high resolution. Probably it would be better for video than the S lens, because motorized zoom is always smoother than manual zoom.

You can also get something low-cost like The Shell, which works both in landscape and portrait mode. It requires a swivel flash head. I have one and like it.

  • I just realized that for video, the fast aperature of the 16-50 2-2.8 will be very valuable to get lower ISO and better quality videos in lower light.  Probably will go this route then with the 16-50 2-2.8.
