I have a 6D. You only need two lenses

16-35mm f4 for landscapes

85mm 1.8 for portraits

A different approach, perhaps...

Suggest the following Lens combo for compact travel to France:

24-105 f4 IS L - All purpose walk-around (hard to go wrong with this one).  Tried and true.  Get this 1st.

16-35 f4 IS L - Wide angle for interiors and artwork in crowded areas.  This lens simply works, and is sharp corner to corner.  A newly released Canon lens.  Get this 2nd.

70-300 f4-5.6 DO IS - Telephoto for discrete street photos.  Incredibly small and works well on FF bodies.  Attracts very little attention. Plentiful on used market for a reduced price.  Get this 3rd.

Jay

Probably, the OP has already made his decision since his post was 3 weeks ago and the next day at that time was his deadline but this is good advice for future questions of a similar nature (in case someone is inclined to use the search feature).

Re: New 6D user : 24-205mm f/4 kit or 24-70 f/4 + 70/200 f/4, or what else ?

My 6D kit and reasons:

70-400mm f/4L IS - this is a lifetime investment, tack sharp, and the IS is necessary for me.

50mm f/2.8 Sigma macro - inexpensive, sharp, versatile, replaced my Canon f/1.4 when it broke.

35mm f/2 IS - awesome low-light combo with the 6D!

I have both the 24-105 and the old 24-70.  I miss the extra reach to 105 when I mount the 24-70.  However, I use the 17-40 much more than these two, but I like wide perhaps more than you do.

Not telling you how to spend your money but this is how it worked out for me.

Re: New 6D user : 24-205mm f/4 kit or 24-70 f/4 + 70/200 f/4, or what else ?

Thanks everyone !

In the end I went for the 24-70 f/4 + 70/200 f/4
I also still have the 50mm f1/8 which is every bit as hard to get in focus on a 6D as it was on the 650D

So far (landscapes, street, social/parties photos) I've used the 24-70 almost exclusively.
Which makes me wonder if I'll ever think of carrying the 70-200 when I need it, and also if I should have just gone for the 24-105 which could then have been my only lens probably... :/
I'm quite happy at 24 for landscapes btw, I wonder what I'm missing with even wider, maybe I should try a 16-35.
I suspect 16-35 + 24-70 + 85mm would have been a better combo for me probably, not to mention less bulky than a 70-200

PS: if you're in Europe, I'm selling my EOS 650D and my 15-85mm EF-S here, let me know if interested.

70-300L is a better choice on FF IMO though i also love the 70-200l f4IS
