My beloved is DEAD! according to 43Rumors
6

EPM2, the love of my life, the mother of my pictures will soon be no more.  The Olympian Gods have decreed that her shade shall slip into Hades and will never feel Apollo's photonic kisses on her sensor, nor will she feel sweet Athena's milky glow caressing the perfectly proposition photon capture system.   I am but a mere mortal and could not compete with her Godly suitors but I love her as much as any man could love another of God's creation.

Her passing will herald the begining of my own mortality, I will sail to the Western shores and there I will slip slowly, inexorbly to dust.

Place a coin on the lens to pay Charon the ferry man on the Styx. build a funeral pyre befitting her status then while pouring libations of wine and burning offerings of meat set fire to the pyre and wish her well on her journey and hope that she may reach the fields of Elysium where she shall be met by pale faced Hecate

Goodbye EPM2

Dear Dennis:

Sorry for your loss.

Though elegantly expressed, you are writing about a machine. It isn't dead. You have one and are using it. That is a blessing. Maybe the price will come down and you can buy a backup and a friend to play with for your precious when your aren't using them. Imagine how much more fun you will have with the next generations of EPMs to come.

Technology moves on. The sensors and engines get better. I don't want to start a firestorm or be sent to hell for asking this but how many OMD users would trade their bodies for an E-1?

Be glad for the good times you have had with your EPM2 and the many fine images you have and will co-created. Continue to use your camera in good health. Then move on. Via con dios.

Can't you speed it up a bit?

43Rumors has a lot to answer for. And it isn't getting any better. I think it was in May that they pronounced my GX7 dead.

Anyhoo, when is a camera model 'dead'? Olympus USA still list the E-5 body for $1,700, so they are not easily dissuaded. "It's not dead, it's pining for the fjords". You can expect to enjoy many years of stagnant unresponsiveness from the manufacturer regarding your PM2. Perhaps it is only stunned after all.

For once 43RUMORS is behind. B&H, Adorama, and the other usual suspects stopped listing the PM2 quite a while ago. Olympus still lists the PM2 with a two lens kit as both new and refurbished for next to nothing, but I tried ordering one about a month ago to use as a backup and every attempt met with OUT OF STOCK. Obviously, Olympus is a little slow in website updates.

There have been a lot of seminal 4/3rds cameras

The E-1, (to me, the E-330), the G1 Panasonic, the first m4/3, the E-M5.  All had their magical attributes.  We can only hope that what comes next is highly innovative, rather than an exercise in cost-cutting.

Re: My beloved is DEAD! according to 43Rumors

I wonder if Oly will introduce an even smaller PEN or down size the next E-PL or if they're just gonna cede that part of the market to Panasonic and the GM line... That would be very odd considering Panasonic saw the GM1 as enough of a success to develop the GM5.

They're all needlessly small for me right now, tho if I ever end up with a G6/GH type body I'd surely buy a GM to have as an alternative as well... Haven't quite reached the point where I want two camera bodies tho. I think it's clear both companies have given up on yearly refreshes of most models...

Not necessarily a bad thing mind you, I think it might lead to better cameras in the long run and less churn and depreciation of bodies, just bad news for anyone waiting for a G7, E-PM3, etc.

Beautifully written! It seems all the PM series cameras are no longer going to be made. They just introduced the E-PL7 so it looks like the PL series will continue. They have pre-announced the E-M5 replacement so it looks as if the OMD line will continue.

As an E-P5 fanboy I'm wondering if this line will continue? I know the E-P5 got a lot of bad reviews because of the shutter shock issue but the 0 second anti-shock firmware update resolved that flaw and IMHO it's the best m43s' body out there (excluding the larger E-M1).

Re: My beloved is DEAD! according to 43Rumors

I actually thought the E-Px made the least sense going forward, regardless of the shutter shock; too close in feature set, price, and even size to the E-M10. They might just be playing naming games tho, the E-PMx line might be dead but something smaller might be coming, or they might split the E-Px line in two a-la OM-D, who knows... Way too early to tell.
