Canon Extender EF 1.4x II

Just got this extender from ebay and quite happy for the moment. The price difference for the new mkiii just does not seem to hold. Got some great shots birding, but be aware that AF is rather slow, more than half i would say. Panning for flights, or any other considerable subject movement will lead to a series of missed shots.

Nevertheless great gear for your buck.

i have had this this extender for a while and used to use it with my 400 f5.6 prime. they worked together quite well as i remember, here is a shot using both of them:

no cropping, if i remember, but downsized quite a bit. 400 f5.6+canon ec 1.4II

cheerz.

I would love to see if there are any real differences between the II and the III. I own the "old" II model and found it quite useful on occasion, but as noted, the AF is a bit slower. I assume that is true for the "III" as well?

There is a'difference'  on the 72isii and 300 is between the two extenders.

iii is definitely better but only very little and I'm never sure I was right to swap them....

the iii was very good indeed with the 500 ii which makes me think the ii whites probably do benefit more, as canon designers claim....

Thanks for the feedback! I own a old 300 f/2.8 (non-IS) and a 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, but don't think it would be worth upgrading.
