Lorikeets at the Denver Zoo

Taken at the Lorikeet Adventure at the Denver Zoo. You enter an enclosure where you can get up close and personal with these friendly birds.  Apparently all of the birds have names, but the keepers who know all of the names were not present. Taken with the 6D, for these first three I was using the 100-400mm lens.

These last four were taken with the 16-35mm f/4, which let me get inches away from the birds.

Nice photos & subjects. The last one you were a little to close for that aperture. The 16-35f4 serves you well.

Thanks.  Chalk up the last one to being too enthralled with the subject to pay attention.

Yours posed nicely for you.  I visited the Pittsburgh Aviary about 10 or so year ago and enjoyed it.  To bad I didn't have a decent camera with me then.

and at the San Antonio zoo

Interesting timing for this thread, I just had the same experience in SA this week!

First shot with the 24-70 f/4L IS (not using macro mode). Then I decided I wanted to get real close so switched to the 100 macro (non-L).  Decided that was too close and prefer the shots with the 24-70.

If there's anything good about the second image, it's that you can closely look at some of the really neat feather patterns.

If it's a *Single* Lens Reflex, why do I need so many lenses?

Thanks for sharing those. A few real nice ones there! We still haven't visited the Denver Zoo yet, tending to go outside the city and into the mountains when we have a day off.

Lovely.  My backyard birds are not quite so flashy.  Magpies are handsome in their "evening wear", goldfinches, the three types of jays (blue, Stellars, or scrub), mountain bluebirds or hummingbirds are the among the best around here in my opinion.
