Yes'es and No'es

I bought this little, lovely camera for a couple of reasons:

  • to use my old manual lenses with Olympus OM, Konica AR and Nikon F lenses,
  • to use it with maual flashes via wireless triggers,
  • to use "focus peaking" for focusing,

Starting from the bottom: "focus peaking" was a rumor, well: it may be added later as a
firmware upgrade.

There is ISO-like flash mount but it's inactive. The hot shoe and the flash settings
gets activated only when Samsung flash is plugged-in. All the manual flashes and wireless
triggers ARE NOT working. Maybe this can be fixed by the firmware update.
Very dissapointing.

For manual lenses: those are working fine. And there is full version of Lightroom 5 included.

I use a Yongnuo 560 TX trigger (Caon version) and it works fine.

On NX3000 precisely? Which firmware version of NX3000 do you have? Can you update
if it's old?

Are flash settings accessible from camera menu? If so, which mode are you using?

I do have 603 II (Nikon versions) and even when I mask out all pins it is not triggering.

Are you sure the shutter speed is within the sync range? I have nx300 not nx3000, but I doubt they would cripple it for no reason.

The 603 II's should work fine. You may have to move the trigger's position in the hotshoe slightly back of being fully inserted if that makes sense. Some of the pins won't make contact unless you do that. You also have to mind your shutter speed, nothing faster than 1/160.

There are no "settings" to set for a manual flash.  Put the camera in M mode and try to take a shot with S slower than 1/160.

Re: Yes'es and No'es

The Yongnuo 603 II's, and a majority of Nikon speedlites are known to not work on the NX hotshoes.
This is not really Samsung's fault, but rather the fact that they use different trigger voltages. I personally use Yongnuos with a variety of triggers, and they all seem to work fine.
Also it's reasonable to expect a third party, non-standard (Non-ATTL) flash to not have flash settings on camera. Buy a first party, or a Metz, and they'll allow you to have a bit more control.
I do agree that the flash support could be better, but you're looking at the lowest end NX. Every other mirrorless system has this kind of 'poor' support at the low end and I think it's reasonable.

The yongnuo 603 II works fine on the NX300 and NX30, I use the canon version myself so I can't speak for the nikon's. Just make sure its set to transmitter mode and dont expect the camera to notice there is a flash attached. But when you fire it below sync speed it triggers without a problem.

Re: Yes'es and No'es

An update after two weeks:

  1. Capacitor in my lamp was dead
  2. Batteries in Yongnous were dead (whatta shame!)
  3. Batteries in the lamp were long dead (shame again!)
  4. My NX3000 firware is 1.02, and the samsung page says latest is 1.01...

I manage the set to be working fine... The YN 603 II Nikon version triggers trigger the lamp correctly, but it's critical to set those attached to lamps to TX and the camera one to TRX (or other way).

It DOESN'T work if you have all triggers set to the same setting: TRX or TX, even tho manual says it should work.

I wish to raise the ratting from 3,5 to 4,5 but it's not possible after two weeks?

Thanks for hints, guys.

P.S.: I love Konica 3.5/28 lens

Hi

I've just bought the NX3000 (and really love it) but I'm struggling to follow this discussion on flash triggers. I'm a bit out of my depth technically and I was wondering if there was a reason why you went for the Nikon version of the YN 603 II? The reason that I ask is because a previous post mentioned using a Canon version of the YN-560 TX.

I'm looking for the basic functionality, size and price of the 603 so I'm tempted to go with your proven solution and other posts I've read seem to point towards the Samsung being more compatible with the Canon hotshoe configuration.

The flash I'd like to use is a YN560 with a standard (?) mount which won't work in the shoe on the camera body (the software doesn't seem to recognise that there's a flash unit attached).

Cheers

Jon

My YN560 works fine on NX300 with latest firmware  (worked on NX200 when mine was functioning).  At various points, people have reported problems with firmware versions and with the pins making proper contact.  Make sure your shutter speed is below S=1/160.

I'm not sure about the YN603's but I use "el-cheapo" RF triggers.  I bought them under the "Cowboy Studios" brand, but they are available under other brand names.  My triggers work fine and fire the YN560 and my SEF20a (the latter at full power only with no metering).

I've tried the yn603rf for both canon and nikon(thanks to Amazon returns) and neither worked so still looking for s solution.

NX3000 (not 300) and I'm wanting a way to get a flash off the camera body. Ideally wireless triggers and a generic speed light (yn560). Please can you help? Thx Jon

Re: Yes'es and No'es

Did you use the yn603 mark I or mark II versions? The former one cant be manually set to Transmitter and doesnt work for the NX system. I use the mark II version without any troubles on my NX30 and NX300. Shouldnt be any different for the NX3000

Re: Yes'es and No'es

Canon or nikon does not matter as long as it's version 2 (or Mark II - rf603ii) for NX system. Here is another thread with same discussion and photo instructions on how to check transceivers, etc.
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3787690?page=2

Any manual flash will work but with yn560iii or iv you get integrated receiver in flash so you only need one on camera.
