I'm surprised the 603 needs modification.  My 602s work just fine with my X-A1.

.... or you could buy just one single 603C II to sit atop of camera which will trigger all your 603N's.

No modification necessary with the 603C's.

At least this is my finding anyway.

Yes, the RF-603N must be "Armed" before You can Shoot with the X-A1.

My 602s work just fine with my X-A1.

Thank You for the Information.

OK, sounds good, My modification cost around € 2.

I realize the 603s are a different setup than the 602s so of course there could be differences in how they perform on "third party" cameras.  That was one of the reasons I gravitated towards getting a Fuji was that I'd read that the wireless triggers I have for my Nikons (for my real estate shooting) would work on the X-A1 and it's true.  The sync speed is pretty low, though, which people over on Strobist tell me is a downside of the 602s but was rectified on the 603s.

I can sync my off-camera strobes at 1/200 with my Nikon DSLRS but only about 1/140 with my 602s on my X-A1.

Yongnuo RF-603C II needs no modification for the FUJIFILM X-M1 and works just fine. I presume it is the same for X-A1. This one also has a very useful locking ring to secure it to the hot shoe which the N version doesn't have.

The Yongnuo RF-603N works fine with no mods for my S5.

For approx £25 GBP each pair, why go to the bother unless you're a soldering wizard?

By the way I'm pretty good with a soldering iron but still cant see the value unless you like DIY electronics.

Thanks for the links though. I guess some will find them useful.

Yes, same on my FinePix S5 Pro.

It is not so hard to drill a little Hole in the Plastic and put the Soldering-iron to 2-4 Points.

OK, for all other Peoples here is the Modification Instruction.

Hi Carsten,

Hope you are well. Will the 603N work on the S2? If not, you might look at the Cactus V6 http://www.cactus-image.com/ According to their web site it should work just fine.

Hi Carsten,

Hello Mark,

Hope you are well.

I Hope so too.

Will the 603N work on the S2?

No, in both cases the Shutter closes first before the Flash can Fire.

If not, you might look at the Cactus V6 http://www.cactus-image.com/ According to their web site it should work just fine.

Thank's for the Information, but I use the FinePix S5 Pro for Flash Work.
The FinePix S2 Pro is my reserve Camera.

And in the Photography Studio, all Cameras Works finewith the Flash Equipment.

Cartsen - Re: --- Modification Instruction ---

Hi Carsten,

A quick question about these wireless systems.

If you purchase a 603N system, it comes with a transmitter and receiver, correct?

You place the transmitter on the camera and the receiver on the flash, correct?

With this system, when you take a picture the flash will fire, but if you want to trip the shutter wirelessly (say you're standing 10 ft away from the camera), then what do you need? An additional 603N system?

The same manufacturer now makes a manual flash that has a receiver built into it. In this case, can you use the unused receiver to trip the shutter?

Thanks.

Hi Carsten,

Hello Mark,

Yes, two Transmitter/Receiver alone, or with the 10-PIN Terminal Cable.

You place the transmitter on the camera and the receiver on the flash, correct?

Yes, both are the same Transmitter and Receiver.

With this system, when you take a picture the flash will fire, but if you want to trip the shutter wirelessly (say you're standing 10 ft away from the camera), then what do you need? An additional 603N system?

No, You need the 10-PIN Terminal Cable and two Transmitter/Receiver.
You must mount the Receiver on the Camera Flash-Shoe and connect the 10-PIN Terminal Cable with the Camera Connector.

The same manufacturer now makes a manual flash that has a receiver built into it. In this case, can you use the unused receiver to trip the shutter?

All what You need are two Receiver/Transmitter (that means two identical YONGNUO RF-603N) and the Connection Cable for the Camera. In my Case the 10-PIN Terminal Cable for Nikon.

OK Carsten, thanks. But if you put the transmitter with terminal cable on the camera and the receiver on the flash, how do you trip the shutter? That's what I'm trying to figure out. Don't you need another device in your hand, or do you do that with the receiver on the flash unit?

Thanks.

Re: Carsten - Re: --- Modification Instruction ---

But if you put the transmitter with terminal cable on the camera and the receiver on the flash, how do you trip the shutter?

With one Finger on the Camera Shutter, or with the second YONGNUO on the Flash.
You need a Receiver/Transmitter for every Unit there You want to Fire/Shoot.

But it is possible to use the Camera + Flash with only one YONGNUO at once.
That means, You need one YONGNUO for the Camera + Flash and a second one in Your Hand.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. Don't you need another device in your hand, or do you do that with the receiver on the flash unit?

I doesn't have the YONGNUO Flash with the internal Receiver/Transmitter.
I know only three possibly Configurations with my YONGNUO RF-603N:

1. One YONGNUO on the Camera controls the second or more YONGNUO's with the unleashed Flash.
2. One YONGNUO alone controls the second or more YONGNUO's on the Camera with the Cable to Shoot.
3. One YONGNUO controls a second YONGNUO on the Camera+Cable+Flash and a third or more YONGNUO's with a Flash and/or Camera.
