or mine...

if you ever decide to move to a body with 5-axis IBIS, you might find that the dual IS works well on its own.

But perhaps not well enough yet (being $2700 into my particular quest).

Speaking for myself, This issue (micro-jitter) haunts and lurks deep, to an extent not many folks can understand.  Eventually another $1000 will offer to diminish this disappointment, and I will have courage to take the risk.

You've stated that Mercalli works well with your current body. And, if you ever decide to move to a body with 5-axis IBIS, you might find that the dual IS works well on its own.

I have accepted the truth that Panasonic cannot or want not fix this issue. I had a little hope that the FW 1.2 makes my lens better. Mercalli works well fixing the jitter. There is still some times OIS generated rolling shutter jello which is not fixable.

I hope that GH5 will have a well working IBIS. I dont want to buy an additional body between GH4 and GH5. If GH5 will not have IBIS I must think again.

Have you tried different shutter speed, because I can cause a stutter-like issue with both the G series and Sony A57 with any lens if the shutter speed is inappropriate for the frame rate?

It is good for most people if they dont have issues or recognize faults. My friends recognizes the jitter issue in my otherwise very steady videos. They ask why my 2000 euro/dollar camera makes vibrating videos while their cheaper cameras dont. Even Youtube suggests stabilizing my video saying "your videos are shaky". I have very steady hands. I can shoot pleasing and steady videos with my 100-300mm at 300mm hand held.

If I keep the camera rock steady (hand held) the shutter speed is irrelevant because there is no movement in frame if the OIS is working properly. My 14-42mm MEGA OIS lens works that way and the video is absolutely rock steady and vibration free at any shutter speed. In camera motion the 14-140mm II OIS is still better and the right shutter speed makes movements smoother.

I don't "not recognise" a fault. I don't have a fault. Period. Video shows that I don't quite clearly. You have a problem. Fair enough, but your obsession with regurgitating the issue every few months, unprompted by user complaints, over a period of years shows along with your attempt to apply a blame to users, specifically me, for posting a hastily but especially made video immediately after I saw your latest comments, a jitter-free video, shows that the problem may not only be with your lens.

I'm sorry Aberearon but this is really you, not them. Just look in the corners of your own video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyaguvTKIVI and it should be decently easy to see, if not then you really just don't see it. I can see the jittering easily and it is very distracting. It's okay that you don't see it and you should just be happy with your lens but there is no need to get to hostile towards Vesku for just bringing up something that bothers him a lot about this lens. I also think it's something Panasonic should fix.

Also thanks to Vesku for this thread, I was considering the 14-140 for video but I'm going to look for other options.

That's your choice and has no implication for me whatsoever. Best of luck with whatever you choose to buy.

That is not my video but I have made some tests:

I have the same kit and I have a huge problem of shooting video handheld. Video vibrates and jitters badly even at widest position 14mm. Is there somebody with the same problem. I dont know sure if this issue is in every lens or is there lots of bad copies. If this issue is in every lens we must ask Panasonic to make a FW update to fix that.

I contacted Panasonic Europe and I told my issue. I am now waiting for an answer. My store where I bought the lens contacted Panasonic too but not answer yet. One problem is that I cant find any other demo piece of that lens to test.

I have made a same kind of topic in Digital video talk but there seems to be little interest.

Sorry for repeating my issue here but I dont know what I must do. FW update would be best and it would help if that issue is well known.

I think that if someone has that lens and it vibrates like my examples it is easy to see. Shoot handheld stationary video at 14mm.

Can we tolerate that bad quality of very expensive lenses?

Hi, I have the same issue with G80+14 140. Have you ever gotten any answers from Panasonic?

Thank you

They said it is normal for this lens.

I wonder what is wrong with your kit because others say the jitter issue is history with Panasonic IBIS and 14-140mm II.

Oh, it's good to know. But not a good news for me (...normal?).

I would like to know too...as I have wrote in another thread. Seems there are various experiences with this lens.

Thank you!

Re: Panasonic 14-140 II OIS jitters when shooting video

Hello,

My first post here, hope to learn a lot with you guys.

I am sorry to bring back this topic, but i hope i can help in the discussion, with my own doubts, its not another question about the jitter problem, which, by the way, i dont have any issue with my brand new 2017 panasonic 14-140mm f3.5 5.6 (black and HD logo) on my (old) Panasonic GH3.

I shoot mainly video, so there is something that is driving me crazy, in video mode, from 14mm to arround 110/120mm, Power OIS, works great, but from there to the long end (140mm) if i tilt or pan, handheld or tripod, and it doesnt need to be to fast (like the sample i made) it gets "crazy" for 1/2 a sec and makes a clunking noise, and i can feel it in my hands.

If i have it stationary, no problem, great OIS doing wonders at any range.

It only does this at the last 20/25mm of the lens zoom range.

I know i am not suposed to make pans and tilts at that zoom range, i just want your opinions, if i should send it for repair, or it is a normal situation, the OIS been taken to the limit.

I have tested my panasonic 45-150mm in the same conditions, and it wont do the same thing, truth is, the IOS is far inferior, then the one the 14-140mm.

here is the video, you can see and hear the noise:

Panasonic 14-140mm F3.5 5.6 OIS problemhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIy5FME6jMU

By the way... here is a wide handheld shot, no jitter is visible (at least not for my eyes)

Thank you
