Powershot SX1 IS from 2009 vs. SX60 HS

After two years of waiting, I was hoping the SX60 specs would equal or better my Powershot SX1 IS from 2009:

- F2.8 lens as the SX1 IS had

- frame-to-frame shot speed as the SX1 IS had

- remote control included as the SX1 IS had

- proper widescreen 16:9 LCD screen to match that of computer/TV monitors, as the SX1 IS had

I returned the SX50HS back to the store last year because it did not beat my SX1 in those aspects, and now it seems the SX60 will not match/beat them either. In the meantime the DMC-FZ1000 came out of nowhere and wipes out them all out, and tops off the punch with 4K video too. True, the zoom range of "only" 25-400mm isn't as much, but is still reasonable at 16X (times the not-so-terrible digital zoom).

But in fairness the SX60 has several notable improvements, and they are tempting. But the FZ1000 is way too attractive in comparison.

I'm sure money is no object to many people here.  But for me, the Canon SX50 offers tremendous value with very good picture quality.  The FZ1000 is a great camera, but it's more than twice the price of the SX50 HS in the U.S market.  I don't know the official cost of the to be released SX60, but it's still a lot less expensive than the FZ1000.

It's the penalty you pay for a wider and much longer focal length if the price and size is kept reasonable.   However, the later models do have in-camera correction for chromatic aberration which ruined a number of bird shots for me with my S5IS.  The SXS1 was a little better with CA than the S5IS; but the Panasonics had CA correction beginning with the FZ28, and fewer problems with blown highlights.

Take a look at the FZ200 specifications compared to your SX1.  That's the route I took after returning an SX40HS.

I do note that used SX1 have a much better resale value than other Canon superzooms of that era.
