LCD on my K5-IIs is over bright

I usually shoot with M mode by setting the exposure according to the position of EV bar in OVF. And I used to having the EV bar at -1 (under exposure), and Auto EV Compensation OFF.

Everything was OK until one day of last month, when I found the LCD on my K5-IIs was so bright that it washed out the whole image, if I do Live View, Instant Review and Playback the images I am taking.

Then I adjusted the LCD Display Settings to Brightness -3, Contrast +3. The Playback of images is acceptable now, but in Instant Review the image would still be washed out.

I was wondering what I did wrong with MENU and buttons, so I tried to Reset Custom Functions. However, the Reset OK does not work at all, I don't get "Returns the custom function settings to default values". I had turned the camera ON and OFF, Reset for several times, all my custom settings are still there!

I have had a *ist DS, K10D and K01, but never run into this kind of trouble with them. This problem is pretty odd for me. Generally, I use Instant Review to see if I got over-exposure or under-exposure to make adjustment on my iso, aperture, shutter speed settings. Now, forget it! Unless my images are way ... under exposure, coming out black, the Instant Reviewed images on LCD would be washed out, almost completely white.

BTW, I already installed the latest firmware 1.07 in K5-IIs.

Is there any thing wrong with my K5-IIs, or with what I have done?

In the Camera Menu, Tools, Tab #1 see if you have the LCD Display Settings turned up too high.

Tab #2?

I had set LCD Display Settings with Brightness -3, Contrast +3.

I noticed that the GrayRGB color chart on LCD Display Settings screen is very bright, before I set the new values. Now, I am increasing Brightness & decreasing Contrast to set [-4, +4]. Tomorrow I will try again to see what it is like.

The odd thing is that the Reset Custom Functions is completely a failure.

The LCD settings are not custom settings, per se; those refer to the numbered items in the custom menu (the C icon over on the right of the menu).

Re: LCD on my K5-IIs is over bright

Sorry for updating so late. I forgot my passwd to login DPREVIEW, when I was out for a week.

My K5-IIs seems be back fine. I cannot tell what has made it normal again. I only did the following:

1. increasing Brightness & decreasing Contrast to set [-4, +4] in LCD Display Settings, but it didn't resolve the problem at all. Anyway, I leave it as [-4, +4].

2. Reset Custom Functions for numerous times, turn the camera OFF, then ON, Reset; OFF, ON, Reset; ...

3. take the battery out and recharge it, put it back.

Then, I found that the LCD was OK on the road. Now I set the Brightness & decreasing Contrast to [0, +2], the LCD looks good, nothing wrong. So weird!
