Olympus SZ-10 Not Turning on issue after snorkeling :-(

Hello everyone, and thanks for accepting me.

My son's girlfriend lent him an Olympus SZ-10 Camera which he took to Egypt with us 2 weeks ago.

We placed it into one of those underwater waterproof bags to go snorkeling, and it was working fine (we had other cameras and did the same with no problems). Then all of a sudden the Olympus camera froze with the lens out would not do anything.

It was not wet as the bag was waterproof and definitely no water got to it, but I did notice an inch of 'condensation' on the inside of the viewing screen when we got out of the water, which cleared up after an hour.

But, the camera still would not turn off, and only went 'flat' when the battery died, but the lens stayed out, and has been dead every since. I have tried a brand new battery but still the same, and left it on charge for over 2 hours, etc. It just will not power up or turn on. Not even a flicker of life in it since.

Any advice would be much appreciated as to what caused this, and how to fix it, so my son does not have to go back to his girlfriend's dad and tell him he broke their camera

Thanks,

Steven

The most important thing to do with electronics after suspected water damage due to ingress is to isolate the camera into its components (aka, remove battery, hot shoe cover etc) and place in a dry environment with dehydrating functions. Desiccants are the best at this, and I would recommend placing the camera in a container of rice bubbles (Google it) or dried rice and leaving in sunlight to dry out the internals. After a few days, remove the camera, pop in a battery and test to see if it works.
