That would be VERY early then

Maybe you should have your eyesight checked, I think that's more realistic.

So you see, this kind of arguing doesn't lead anywhere, but to schadenfreude. Enjoy you camera, and let others enjoy theirs.

I believe there is quite some marketing drivel around concerning shutter shake, they try to push people to buy a new camera. I don't experience any relevant shutter shake problems with my current E-PM2.

I believe you mean "I don't notice any shutter shock problem with my current E-PM2".

Many people don't notice it until they can compare their results to something that does not suffer shutter shock. My E-M5 seemed better than my E-PM2 already, but the GM1 is just perfect.
Shutter shock does not make a picture unusable, it just makes it soft. And I'm not surprised that many people don't care. But I do.

And I was complaining about shutter shock well before it became "hype".

No that's plain Urban Myth developed by negativity. I have had some 5 Pens, and the only one which had some vibration because of the undamped shutter was the PL-3.

All the rest must be user failure to hold properly a light camera. Don't spread BS. We have enough of people crying wolf.

Actually the problem shows up even on a tripod. I was skeptical at first but after testing it's clear there is a problem. Turning on the antishock makes a difference.

Might be. But one wonders when you ever find the time for the decisive instant, since in fact you are delaying it

It's only a 1/8 of a second delay and barely noticeable. It can always be turned off if shooting a higher shutter speeds. I leave it on almost always.

Amalric is right, though.   For true decisive moments that 1/8 delay can matter.   I don't shoot such often, but I recall when I wanted to catch pedestrians walking past two trees and wanted their gait frozen in the space between them, I tried to anticipate and had to press the shutter a little earlier to succeed.   If this is the type of moment one seeks out often that 1/8 shutter delay would be confounding.

FWIW.

Re: The big question: qwhy buy an E-P5 when you can get the E-PL7? nt

Cheers, geoff

The E-P5 is a helluva camera and does everything I ask it to. It's super customizable and no longer suffers from any SS. I guess if you're happy with the camera you have why pay more for a newer model that doesn't add features you need/want? Many people still use the older Pen models and are perfectly happy, why should they upgrade?

If I get another camera it will be another E-P5 only this time I'll get the classic looking silver and black version then I'll be able to grab the right camera without confusion. JMHO.

Lower price and better controls

I think you got it backwards.  The E-P5 is less expensive ($500 vs. $600), and it offers everything the E-PL7 has and more, with the exception of 'selfie' mode.

If that becomes an issue I can always turn it off. So far I haven't had any problems.
