350d upgrade

I am looking to upgrade my old Canon 350d, would like something that also shoots video.

I was set on getting a 700d and 18-135 stm lense, then I noticed the Panasonic FZ1000! shoots 4k video at 30fps (you can take a 8mp shot of any of those 30 frames).

a few concerns are the smaller sensor (more noise), and I like a shallow dof when doing portraits.

OIS can be heard on the video

Re: 350d upgrade

That's going to be a tough one to answer. The Panasonic FZ1000 got great reviews. But are you ready to move from a DSLR? How much better are the STM lenses? I really don't know, as presently I'm using two Canon T2i (550D) DSLR cameras and two non-STM kit lenses.

Here's some discussions about the FZ1000 and DSLR cameras. In the thread you'll find that Bill Hansen has both a Canon 70D and the Panasonic FZ1000.

Re: 350d upgrade

This is a very tough question.  For me it would be difficult to move away from a DSLR because I have a fair number of lenses.  The SL1 offers a compelling feature-set at a smaller size and is probably the route I would go.

If you either don't have a ton of lenses and/or are able to sell what you have easily and for good prices, then the decision becomes even more difficult.

The FZ1000 has a ton going for it.  It's an exciting camera.

Best of luck on your decision.  Do update the thread when you've made your purchase.

70D?

Actually the 70D with 18-135 STM would be just the ticket IME.

The impressive AF and dead quiet operation need to be experienced to be believed.

Here's an example...

As far as stills shooting goes, the 70D is top notch as well.

Worth some consideration, if you can swing it.

Good luck,
