Re: GX7 .... nice work, zen, regardless of camera!

I chuckled at your first shot, though. While you were using only the 20mm, this is just the sort of situation where you either have the components for a picture in your field of view or you don't when you are operating with a single focal length. No "zooming with your feet" if you need to get closer in this case!

The last pic is a lovely use of light and composition.

Cheers, geoff

Re: Downtown Tampa

The second is quite nice.  Could use a crop for my sensibilities from top and bottom to give a panorama look.  Also, a bit of clarity boost and maybe just a bit of shadow raising to give a little detail in the trees, but not so much as to lose the wonderful look of the image.

Re: Some Hong Kong water views.......

I like the 2nd and 3rd pix, berni, but the 1st an d 4th don't do anything for me. The 2nd does and old-and-new, ancient-and-modern thing very well, I think, and also portrays the reality of Hong Kong's built environment.

I have two questions:

  1. Why didn't I see these scenes when I visited Hong Kong as an escorted travel writer in 2005?
  2. How is it that the atmosphere is so clear? When I was there the haze was horrendous.

Re: GX7 ....

The last appeals to me most.  Nicely done.

Excellent use of HDR Alan to produceā€¦
1

…an ikonic picture.

BUT to my eye the pic suffers from wide angle disease if you are attempting to portray the tallest buidling AS the tallest. The w/a angle has cut it down to size and your lowish viewpoint and distance from the subject mean it stands more or less in isolation with little to compare it with.

So two comments:

  1. IF you wanted to show the building off as the tallest (rather than producing an excellent picture with a different inherent meaning), a shot more like berni's 2nd pic would be better to provide contrast between the tallest and the rest -- and also to place it in context in Hong Kong's amazing built environment
  2. As I asked berni -- and the question pertains even more to your picture -- how on earth did you get it so clear? Where is Hong Kong's ever present haze?

Cheers, geoff

Two votes for this so here it is. Is this better?...

Yay, Florida! But it still lacks the audio and aroma-rama effects! :)

Now you have to admit it looks VERY GOOD with that cropping -- and succeeds every without audo and aroma-rama! You cropped a bit off the right. I liked that odd structure on the right. But this crop looks good except it needs just a little off the left, I think -- that first tree you can see the lights through a bit -- try whipping that off. just for fun!

(I love encouraging others to work! LOL!)

Pondicherry - that 1st pick is a stunner, Brooksy!

And quite disgusting! I grew up with cows and like them. I am horrified to see one picking over the garbage!

Nice shot! That little 12-32 is fun on a slightly bigger camera, isn't it? I use it as my walk around lens on the G6.

Yes. I do like it better. I really don't know what you mean by audo and aroma-rama. I made it 16x9. To do so I had to get rid of the raised bridge. I didn't really want to but I liked the image better as 16x9 overall.
