River Wharfe in West Yorkshire.
8

75-300mm II and 12-40mm in Ilkley, taking advantage of the few hours of sun before the rain appeared yet again...

Main goal was KingFishers, but some other nice sights too:

River Wharfe. No otters today, but fingers crossed for next time.

KingFisher! First time I've ever seen one.

Intentional motion blur to emphasise just how fast they are.

Pond just off the river

Alien invasion!

If it's going to rain, I might as well make the most of it!

Attempt at something "arty".

All in all a nice few hours down by the river.

Few more on Flickr for anyone interested.

Liked the kingfishers (of course - lovely pics) but it's the first one which brings back childhood memories, so I liked it best. Do you get up to the Cow and Calf?

Nice set of shots - I have been trying to get a good shot of a kingfisher for ages. I have only seen one  this year and I did not have the 75-300II with me.

If so pls go via Betty's Tea Shop and take some pics of the pies and cakes....

Great pics BTW, love the Kingfisher - never seen a live one...

Here's a couple of Wharfedale pics I took in 1970 - long before digital...

No, but thanks for the reminder I need to add it to my list. It's funny, since I only actively got into photography a few months ago, there are so many local places I haven't been to, I'm compiling a list on the computer to remember them. Certainly one of the benefits of living in Yorkshire, so much countryside to explore.

I feel incredibly fortunate that the very first time I went in search of them I found some. Even with the 75-300, I was still hoping one would land closer to me for that super close detailed shot, but I guess that would have been asking too much for a first time. Plus it just gives me a good reason to keep photographing them!

This was the closest one landed, but obviously it's a far from ideal shot. The camera wouldn't focus because there was so much foliage in the way, but thankfully I am always in AF-M mode so was able to quickly correct it by hand.

Challenging focus

Next time. Next time...
