Can you share 14mm street shots ?

I consider buying Panasonic 14mm F2.5 to use with my GX7 for street photography.

I like 28mm and I wonder how does this lens works for street, can you post your pictures ?

A quick search on Flickr pulled up hundreds upon hundreds of street photos with that lens for me. That might be a better indication than the small handful of photos you will get here.

I had to look back a couple of years to find street shots with this lens. Here are four shots (mostly in low light or at night) from Berlin with Pany GH2. I am sure I have better pictures somewhere, but those should give you an idea as they are not cropped or heavily processed.

it will work just like another 28mm lens.  It is a lovely lens, just don't expect razor sharpness corner to corner though.

I really love this lens. Extremely small and lightweight, plus it focuses very fast.

The only negative, IMHO, is the angle of view. You must get yourself very close to the people for a portrait shot or even a small group.

I do not care the lens is in not that sharp from corner to corner, at least not for Street Photography.

BTW, I also carry the 20mm F1.7 on the second pocket..

Once you stop down a bit, it's sharp, has decent micro contrast, and is nice at the edges.

A couple from the archives

I don't do a lot of street photography involving people but here are two shots I dug up:

Both have been cropped to 16:9 but only by trimming out stuff from the top/bottom, the width is the full width as captured.

i particularly like that second shot. Obviously, the thing was constructed for this effect, but you have captured it really well.

I used it a LOT -- it was basically my "standard" lens on the E-PL3 with occasionally the 45mm and mostly the 40-150 in my pocket.

But after 40 years of using a 28mm equiv as my standard, I developed a taste for something just a little wider with the LX3 and the Kodak P880 offering me 24mm equiv.

So I have moved to both the 12-32 and the 12-35 as "standard" on my G6 -- the 12-32 for walk around and the 122-35 for my pro work (but as I write this, it is in a lunch break and I have been using the 12-32 for pro pix during the morning).

With the 12-32 on the G6 it is nearly as small a package as the 14 on the E-PL3 with VF2 so the 14 fell into disuse.

Cheers, geoff

14 and 15mm on the Streets of Kuala Lumpur

Hi, some of these were taken with the Panasonic Leica 15/1.7, but the extra 1mm doesn't make an appreciable difference on the street (whereas the larger maximum aperture sure does). 28 or 30mm FF equivalent focal lengths are ideal for street photography, especially in more cramped urban environments. Such a wide focal length forces you to get closer to your subject which can result in very engaging photos. On top of that, the Lumix 14/2.5 is a wonderfully compact and non threatening lens which most subjects won't be intimidated by.

Shot with the Lumix 14/2.5 on the GM1

Shot with a Leica 15/1.7 on the GM1

If you'd like t see a few more 30mm equivalent street photos, please have a look on my blog. I shoot a GM1 alongside an A7R, so you'll see some shots from the latter camera as well.
