If you bought a GH4 and one lens to accompany it, which one would it be?

14-140 MK 1 ...

Just curious, but why the 14-140mm I and not the version II?

Slightly sharper in the center, no shuttershock, excellent match for the bigger bodies (Gx, GHx) ....

The penalty is that it is a bit larger and heavier and that it is slightly less sharp outside the center ... but I mostly care about the center on this lens and I have not felt that the corners were a problem anyway ...

Okay. I'm in the process of selling some lenses, including a 14-140mm I to fund a 14-140mm II. I stopped using it after getting bit by the prime bug, so no big deal. My girlfriend doesn't like the bulk of version I and the 14-42mm II I got for her isn't zoomy enough, either.

It should be fine with a Panny body with the eshutter ... otherwise a little luck and some training

I've often thought about grabbing the smaller one, but the cost differential is pretty high right now and those issues, however minor, bug me a bit.

I really don't get questions like this.

I by ILCs specifically BECAUSE I can use multiple lenses. If I didn't want to change lenses, I'd just buy an FZ1000.

I could say a 12-35, because it's what I'd use most often. But that would still prevent me from getting at least half of the shots I want to take. I could say the 7-14, because some of the favorite images come from that lens, but it would eliminate at least 3/4 of the shots I take.

So I can't play this game, until someone creates a 7-300 f/2.8 with OIS in a packge about the size of the current 14-140.

Re: I really don't get questions like this.

Some people buy a camera like the GH4 not for the interchangeable aspect, but because the features and capabilities of the camera mose closely match their needs. I would venture a guess that those people are the most likely to want advice pertaining to a "one lens solution" as they have neither the background nor inclination to select and use multiple lenses.

I'd bet the GH4 will see quite a bit of use as a single lens camera for some people due to it's unique blend of great still image capability and astounding video capabilities.

Why no Olympus 12-40 2.8?

The 12-35 is stabilized in lens the 12-40 isn't because of Olympus ibis

Thanks for stopping by! Have a goodnight/day

Only one lens, would have to be the Canon FD 500 F/4.5L with the GH4 in that case. No other lenses appeal. I didn't vote

Shooting with a panasonic body the 12-35mm f2.8 would be a better option because of the OIS. The 12-35 and 12-40 are very similar so there is no point in adding it.

Cheaper, with greater range and pseudo macro abilities. Even without IOS, that kind of flexibility when you're limited to one lens should matter.

I disagree the OIS on the GH4 body allows photos to be taken in much lower light conditions (4 stops over non-stabilized) & allows for relatively stable handheld video.  The extra 5mm is insignificant....what just take a step or so forward.  And pseudo marco the lumix lens has that too, close focus of 25mm w/ magnification of 0.34x.

It would be the Lumix X 12-35mm f/2.8, which I think is a fantastic lens, probably the best I have used:

14-140 since I need different focal for sport acrobatics videos...

I just used the 14-140ii today for video the first time. Holy cow, it is a good video lens. I did not expect much at all, but the result looks great. (I only rarely use zooms. I just happened to have this one out because I had been doing testing of "shutter shock".)
