I love this lens on my em-1. Should work very nice on the G4.

I would hate to have just one lens but if I absolutely had to choose it would be the panasonic 7-14mm. I've had more keepers from this lens than any other.

Voigtlander 17.5
Need the ability to maximize available light
Shorter FL will work well in most scenes
Clickless aperture and non focus-by-wire are important for video.

Shooting with a panasonic body the 12-35mm f2.8 would be a better option because of the OIS. The 12-35 and 12-40 are very similar so there is no point in adding it.

If you can only have one lens, why have an interchangeable lens camera? And why pay twice as much just for the body?

If I could only have one lens then I likely would have bought an RX10 instead of my GH3.

I chose the 14-140 f/3.5 because that's by far the lens I use most often. But the reason I have the GH3 and not the RX10 is because I can also go from 7 to 300 using my other two lenses.

On the other hand, if I was able to keep my existing lenses and the question was "which one extra lens would you buy with the GH4", then my answer would be the Voigtlander 17.5. That's the next lens on my list.

There's plenty of things that a ILC + lens combo can do that no fixed lens camera can do. Still plenty of reasons to get one without changing lenses.

Re: If you bought a GH4 and one lens to accompany it, which one would it be?

I voted 17.5 mm but it's tricky for me between that and the 14-140mm. I'm odd in that I seem to like have just one focal length or pretty much every focal length. I don't do well with just one limited length zoom.

why one?

I'd pick the 12-35mm because of its versatility, but why limit oneself to one lens when using a interchangeable lens camera? It is like buying a big bad flatscreen TV and limit yourself to one channel to watch.

I would have to agree on the 12-35mm lens.  My first two lenses were the 12-35mm and the 35-100mm, both great lenses for the GHX camera bodies due to the stabilization built into the lens and reasonably fast F2.8 constant aperture.  Ultimately, I added some really high quality prime lenses that I also enjoy and recommend  too, but I would still start out with the 12-35mm as it I'd the one lens that would give you high quality photos and  video too for a really great range of focal lengths.

Oh wow a lot of different personalities! This is quite amusing

Again, the poll question is very hypothetical. I saw a couple people asking why buy a interchangle lens camera and use one lens. There are several reasons for buying a high end dslr even if you are using just one lens but I won't get into that. The idea behind this poll is which one lens would you buy: the one you absolutely cannot live without!

For me the answer is simple:

-Voigtlander 17.5mm

The reasoning behind that is because I am more into videos than stills. At the same time, voigtlander 17.5mm is a phenomenal lens (looking at pictures I don't own it) for stills! It produces very dreamy shots.

If I'm ok with manual focus (the options indicate I am) then the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 plus a SB and a standard G adapter.

Alternately I love the Contax G 21/2.8 and the Voigtlander 25/0.95, each for it's own reason. I shot the 21/2.8 for two years as my only lens and the Voigtlander for 9 months in the same situation.

If it has to AF I'd likely pick the 12-35/2.8.
