Thank you, brianj, nice idea!

First place in a dpr challenge. Still in love with my (second) S95; first one has lens error;

Stem; circle of flowers, stem; circle of flowers!

Can anyone put a name to this one? Photographed at the Westonbury Water Mill & Gardens, close to the edge of a pond if that is significant.

Hi Keith, I wish I knew what they are called.  They are beautiful with their colour and multi-layers. We have them here too.  I'm sure they are from the same species:

Very nice, Ed.

I like how continuous it is horizontally.  They are holding hands.

Re: Mario and Stephen

Thanks for the comments guys. The sun was cooperative enough to hide behind some light clouds for a bit to allow capturing the softness of the colors and gentle bouquet of lighting in the background. Later on I took a second image in full sun that presented an entirely different energy.

Stephen, I like the idea of the blooms "holding hands". But we know how technical you and I can be (especially you as I'm trying to wrap my head around your 5% thread), so the "holding hands" effect is actually due to the optics at 2.1°. The blooms were fairly well separated but joined by the compression of space at the long end of the lens. I chose to step back and go long both for this reason and to create the background bouquet. The long lens did create a problem as a constant light breeze kept the blooms moving, so I had to patiently hold the composition until they rested a bit.

Thanks again,

Ed

VisionLight's Shot

Hello again, Ed,
I didn't realize that you took that shot at full optical zoom. Then I wondered how you got enough depth of field. You must have backed off quite far, which I never thought of doing. Amazing! Thanks for the photography lesson.

I believe these are called "Fairy Primrose".  Sometimes you get a variety of different colours on the one plant.

You've got the subtle tones of the yellow well there, and 16:9 aspect.  Nice addition to this thread, and good to see some IXUS 255 images here.

Thanks Brian, We have a full moon here what settings would you use to take a picture of the moon. I took a few on ISO 200, no flash, 10x zoom on p but it lacked detail.

Cheers

Steve.

Probably too late now, its morning here, and I'm not sure if 10X is enough for good moon shots, but I have had more success at night shots in P mode when the focus mode is set to Infinity, (opposite to macro) when the controller is left pressed.  Other than that I am not sure.

Did some PP to enhance contrast, but lighting was just right to give it a glowing effect.
