Well, it should be much better-balanced on a 1D-series body than a 6D. Good glass and good flashguns help my ancient 1D Mark II N bodies remain relevant.

The improved weather-sealing, as evidenced when Roger Cicala disassembled a 16-35/4L/IS, have moved this lens to the very top of my to-buy list, when $1200 becomes an attainable sum. A weather-resistant top-tier pro body, even an older model, deserves a matching lens.

I'm fine with it's weight and balance on the 6D (the 70-300L- THAT'S unbalanced, but still usable!).

I just get a bit wistful when I see those nice small camera packages....

Nahhhh, I'l stick with the full frame.

You can't go wrong with the 16-35 F4L, it's great. And now we know it's pretty toughly built to, a big plus.

Still liking the full frame combo more, but will happily take the crop combo given the enormous size, weight, and cost differences.

Re: Comparo: Canon EF 16-35IS vs. Canon EF-M 11-22IS

The differences are too slight. Biggest one is that the 6D puts 20Mpix while the M 18Mpix. It could be just that. With the FF combo we are well into the negative slope of the marginal returns curve. Real-world at low ISO the differences, as far as this resolution test goes, are probably even less. The EF lens is the best UW zoom ever by Canon, and the EF-M lens is right on its heels.

I'll post the 18mm vs. 11mm shots shortly. Suffice it to say, there ain't any big surprises. Both lenses are exceedingly good.

As the Lensrentals comparo attests the 16-35L II is pretty decent stopped down. What did your comparo with the 10-18 reveal?

I may actually pick up the 10-18 out of curiosity to test it against the new EF and the EF-M lenses.

16-35II wins.  honestly simple as that.  but they are close.  10-18 had at least two things going against it, one was it was being used with an adapter, and lensrentals had an article how bad adapters and UWA lenses are.  second, I was useing it on a 1.5x crop sensor  I know its not that much different from 1.6, but it is a bit bigger.  the lens performed a lot better at 11mm, than 10mm

I subsequently took the combo on a field where I had to climb some rocks to get to tide, and ended with very satisfactory images.  Thats the thing, its not purely about which combo wins in absolute image quality, you have to consider size and convinience.

I really hope canon comes up with a better M, slightly better senosr (DR wise) and much better AF, and an EVF, and a good 50 1.8.  I would buy the kit in a heart bit with the three zoom combo, the 22 pancake and the 50.  I may even some day give up my 5d3 with all the lenses.

Do u regret your decision Abu.

Just couple of days ago, I gave my 10-22mm to my friend to try it out before he decides to buy it from me. I was thinking to add the 14mm or this new 16-35mm f4L IS to my 6D. Still feel that the 10-22 is an extra ordinary lens with amazing sharpness and clarity giving stunning perspectives.

Too early to tell. The upshot is that I now own two great UW zoom lenses.

EF-S 10-18 vs. EF-M 11-22?

I'd like to see this. I have a 10-22 that is great optically but I don't like to carry big stuff around anymore. I was thinking of eBaying my T2i + my non-STM kit EF-S lenses + the 10-22 and get a SL1 + STM lens kit. Including the 10-18.

But I don't want to do this if I take too much of a hit with image quality. I'd prefer the SL1 to my M because I really have a problem framing with the LCD. But if the EF-M 11-22IS is noticeably better than the 10-18, then I'd skip the SL1 kit and get an 11-22.

(I already have a 6D + 40mm + 70-200 f/4L IS.)

Lawrencew tested them, and short of it is that the EF-M lens prevails over the EF-S lens.

Amazing performance from that tiny lens. Kind of shocked that the bigger FF lens has hardly any IQ improvement.

the EF-M 11-22 is worth the price of admission into the EF-M ecosystem for what it is.
