E-PM2 with Panasonic 14mm f2.5

My photos seem to have very strong CA or purple fringing each time I shoot again a back-light and can hardly be corrected via post-processing. Is this normal? Is it the E-PM2 that is giving most of the problem or is it the Panasonic lens? I can't use most of the photos and now I am considering switching to Panasonic body or Sigma 19mm f2.8 lens.

This topic has been covered in detail in past threads, so a search in the forum might help explain it in more detail.  It is common with Panny lenses on Oly bodies, and can be significantly reduced (from what I recall of those threads) by a particular filter.

Re: E-PM2 with Panasonic 14mm f2.5

The Panasonic 14mm is especially prone to purple fringing of back lit edges in the corners. I've been able to use the fringe tool in Lightroom4 to remove it. It's not confined to the EPM2. I see it in the EPL1 and EM5. I don't believe it's the kind of fringing that is removed by the Panasonic bodies as I can turn on CA removal in LR4 (I am told this is essentially the same algorithm as Panasonic in-camera) and nothing happens.

If it bugs you, I agree this is not a good lens for you, but to me the specific lighting conditions which cause big time fringing on my 14mm also cause it on other lenses to different degrees.

LR does some removal but you must use the manual tools to get it all. Really no big deal to have such a small, good lens. And I've found on my EP5 this only happens in very bright back lighted images.

Any banding issues?

Not in my use of the lens. Nothing beats having it on the EP5 sans finder in a pocket.

Dxo Optics Pro is very good at correcting this automatically as they have lens/body specific profiles.

Yes using a wratten 2A filter fixes this, it did here with my 20mm on a PM2. Really night and day....

Sin, try a UV or 81A filter.

That has been shown to drastically reduce/totally remove the CA fringing.

Cheers, geoff

Re: E-PM2 with Panasonic 14mm f2.5

I am in the process of deciding how to spend my money. I already have the Sigm 19 and 30mm. Not sure what other FL I need. The 14 would get me a wider FOV, but so would the Panny 14~45.

Maybe I will just buy a new iPad. Whatever.

Re: E-PM2 with Panasonic 14mm f2.5

I am thinking of replacing it with the equally compact 12-32mm f3.5-5.6 zoom for the same pocketability purpose.  What do you reckon?

Thanks for telling me that.

Is there any problem with banding with the 14 on an Oly body?

I don't own any Olympus bodies so it difficult for me to recommend this lens without knowing any protential side effects. However the Panasonic 12-32 has better IQ than the 14mm 2.5 at 14mm and it so good it give the 15mm 1.7 some run for it money aswell.
