Same way you'd fire one of them.

Set the camera to wireless flash, put it on the camera and press the shutter to set the channel on each of them, popup the flash and they should both fire the same as if you were only using one.

Thought I did that, but it only fired the last flash that was attached. When I get home Ill try pressing the shutter with each flash, maybe I did not do that. Thanks for the reply.

Did you check the HVL-F42 FAQ page on the Sony website?  See here.

I believe this just sets the channel on them, and that can be done through the menu also, I think (I've never tried).  I used to have two of these, and I'm pretty sure I've used them both at the same time successfully. It is possible that maybe the camera is switching "channels" when you go from setting one to the other, and you should be able to check that on somewhere on the flash's menu to make sure they are the same.

But, if each works independently (you have verify it's not just one that doesn't work at all?) I can't think why else they wouldn't work together.

Thanks again...I'm pretty sure I'm doing something backwards...I tried to change the channel on one but it would only select ch2.

Put each flash on the hotshoe, turn on, remove and repeat with the second. Check both are set for same channel. Should work. I've fired 2 and a Nissin di866 at the same time with just the pop up.

Re: Any way to fire 2 f42am flashes wirelessly

It sounds like the flashes are set to different channels. Choose one channel, and set both flashes to it (Custom settings - pages 44 & 45 of the manual). Then put one on the camera and power camera and flash, then select WL on the camera and half-press the shutter release. This will set the camera to the chosen channel, which will be indicated on the flash.  Repeat with the 2nd flash if you wish, but it is only necessary to set it to WL using the mode switch, as the camera is already set.

Re: Any way to fire 2 f42am flashes wirelessly

Found what I was doing wrong...I didn't realize that changing the channel was a custom setting and I needed to  press hss for the 3 seconds to be able to put the flash that was on channel 2 to channel 1. Thanks for all the help.
