I like, enjoy and appreciate Thailand, but it ain't the true land of smiles. That title belongs to Indonesia and/or the Philippines.

I think the person on the left moved a bit and with such a slow shutter speed that will cause blur.

Its a country the size of France with a similar population. Many different ethnic groups, dialects, environments, & sub-cultures. After 7 years of living, loving, and working here I can't agree with you and I certainly wouldn't judge the entire country with a blanket statement. I cannot speak for those other countries nor would I try to compare .. for me, I love Thailand, love Thai people, and for some reason they smile a lot with me Maybe it's your 35IS that puts them off lol They seem to love my red ring JK BTW Abu, did you source your 16-35 f/4 yet? mine gets here from LA tmr

No, my friend. I have an impending visa run, and it think it'll be to the Lion City where the lens has been confirmed to be sitting on the shelves waiting for my S$. Plus fares to the Land of Smiles are seaonally high.

Re: Wondering if something is wrong with my 35L

Try a higher shutter speed, smaller aperture, and a higher ISO. This will give you more depth of field and less of a problem with  motion, yours and the subjects'.

Re: Wondering if something is wrong with my 35L

While I would suspect your shutter speed is on the low side and that could be responisble for less than stellar sharpness, I will say that although the 35L has a great reputation, I have tried 3 copies over the years and was never satisfied with any one of them. Maybe there is a quality control problem with them, or maybe I just have had bad luck, but each time I  tried them, I thought they were pretty bad. Not very sharp at all.

i stayed in Bangkok for a couple of week last year and enjoyed it immensely.i am tempted to visit Thailand again i viewed the shot at 100% and it looks fine. as suggested by someone above, the person at the right of the girl in the middle may have moved and caused the motion blur. it definitely looks like motion blur at this slow shutter speed.

cheerz.

Re: Wondering if something is wrong with my 35L

I agree with the motion-blur comments. I may be able to hand-hold my 35L reasonably well at slow speeds, but human subjects will tend to blur themselves with motion at less than about 1/60.

I wear a badge and pistol, and make evidentiary images at night, which incorporates elements of portrait, macro, still life, landscape, architecture, and PJ. I enjoy using both Canons and Nikons.

My old 35L used to have inconsistent focus. Lovely lens, though.
