Strange delay wireless flash NX30
1

I'm trying to use the yongnuo RF-603c wireless triggers. They work fine with a NX100 body, but on the NX30 there is a strange delay with the exact same setup. It fires a fraction of a second too late, so it wont sync with the shutter speed, but does fire.

Does anyone know what causes this and perhaps even has a solution?

My setup:

NX30 (with samsung nx 60mm)

2 RF-603c yongnuo wireless triggers

tried a sef42a and sef15a samsung flash

I don't believe those triggers are compatible. I have the 603n triggers and have the same issue. I haven't found any solutions.

The delay is about 1/8 second, so you should be able to fire with shutter speeds of 1/6 sec and slower. It's not ideal, but it works. Also, I used http://www.amazon.com/Adapter-SM-512-Samsung-NX100-Hotshoe/dp/B004G45UJM/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1403568440&sr=8-2-fkmr1&keywords=hotshoe+adapter+samsung+NX-30 which seems to work. Don't know for sure if it will work with the radio trigger, but it might!

Re: Strange delay wireless flash NX30

It's pretty mysterious to me, though I did notice the trigger isnt recognized as a flash, perhaps that puts the signal on a low priority?

Thanks for the link to that adapter, did you use it yourself? I might try that if I cant find a working alternative for off camera flash. Does anyone know of RF triggers that do work with the NX30?

I tried these on my NX300 aswell, it gives the same problem. I notice the hotshoe plates of the NX30 and NX300 differ from the one on the NX100, which could explain part of it.

Re: Strange delay wireless flash NX30

I use that adapter + a sync-to-mini cable and it works for off-camera flash. I haven't tried pairing the adapter with a RF-603 or RF-602, though it's on my list. FYI, my buddy's Pocket Wizard IIs work fine with the NX-30, so if you've got the cash that is an alternative.

What is your EFCS (electronic first curtain) setting?

I notice my camera disables EFCS automatically when internal wireless flash is used.

My guess is the flash might not sync correctly if EFCS is enabled with your wireless triggers, and since they are after-market triggers the camera might not be smart enough to disable EFCS automatically.

Try disabling EFCS and see if it works (it is near the bottom of the 2nd menu from the bottom, the menu that looks like the user settings or something).

I tried that. Didn't work.

Is this the same as the E-Shutter option at the bottom? I just tried again with that option turned off, that one doesn't seem to do the trick though.

Yes, that is the E-Shutter.  Too bad, was hopeful that would work.

Re: Strange delay wireless flash NX30

Sounds like this should do the trick, strange that it doesnt give the same delay with just the center pin, perhaps I could try dissabling the other connectors on the trigger... Does the flash get registered on the camera when you use the adapter?

Nope, despite the fact that it fires.

Your thread covers a topic that is very important to me.

I did some web research and found this interesting web site with a review on your flash triggers.

The author writes :"The bad news: these "smart" transceivers are a little too smart for their own good. The unit relies on the Canon E-TTL "wake up" signal from the hot shoe on the camera to figure out it should be a transmitter, which means that if you want to trigger your flashes by simply hand-holding one transceiver (with the other one attached to a flash), you're out of luck. No amount of pushing the built-in "test" button will convince the unit in your hand that it's supposed to be the transmitter, and it just sits there doing nothing. It also won't turn itself into a trigger if it's in a non-Canon hot shoe -- such as the shoe in my older "Cactus" remotes. And with no PC-cord *input* to trigger from, it won't work as a trigger from sound or optical triggers for high-speed flash, either. This is a camera hot-shoe only setup, reducing flexibility considerably."

Here is his link:

This may be the answer you are looking for ( not good news).

Re: Strange delay wireless flash NX30

FYI, I also tried a Nikon-compatible Yongnuo radio trigger and that didn't work either. And that article, while informative, doesn't explain the 1/8th second delay issue either.

I think it might. It is waiting for a Canon signal but it is being fed a Samsung signal.

Re: Strange delay wireless flash NX30

Since it works fine on the nx100 but not on the nx30, I suspect it should be possible to make it work somehow. There is an additional two pins on the hotshoe of the nx30, so perhaps a connectivity issue.

I understand there could be a problem with the receiver being 'too smart', but in that case the trigger wouldn't recognize it is attached to the camera and not work as a transmitter. In that case I guess symptoms would be the check light not burning and the flash not firing at all. That's what I hope anyway.

Re: Strange delay wireless flash NX30

I found a mod that might solve the problem:

http://nikonrumors.com/2012/06/02/diy-modifying-the-yongnuo-rf603n-wireless-remote-flash-trigger.aspx/

But this is beyond me, so I'll try an alternative option. I understand there is a rf603c II released which is compatible with single pin hot shoe's, so should work on the NX just fine. It helps that you can set it manually to "transmitter only" mode, which is essentially the same as the above mod, but out of the box and is backwards compatible with the rf603

I'll report back on this thread if it works!

I've received the MK2 versions of the trigger and found they work fine! I used the MK2 on the hotshoe and was able to trigger both the MK1 and MK2 versions of the RF603c:

So yes, you can use RF603c II triggers on the NX30. If you've already got RF603 triggers, I'd recommend buying a single RF603c II to use as transmitter on your camera and use it to drive your original triggers.

Hope this helps some of you out there

Hi Finder80, does this setup still work AFTER the infamous firmware update of samsung nx30 where all wireless triggers seem to have become useless? (firmware on my nx30 is version 1.30)

Cheers
