How Much Value Does a Lens Loose If the Auto-Focus No Longer Works?

Hello, I have a Canon 24-70mm f2.8 I and the auto-focus has given out. I no longer really use the lens and was wondering how much value has the lens lost due to the auto focus? Is best to repair then sell, or just sell it for a lower price and not repair it?

People usually buy broken lenses to pick them up cheap.  If you have it fixed, most places will also clean it and provide it with a 90 day warranty.  I use United Camera for my repair work.  They are quick and reasonable.  Most zooms they fix for about $250-300 depending.  Give them a call, if not roll the ebay dice and lost 13% of your sale in fees.

in your title you really mean "lose" and not "loose", right? it is like a (loose screw) and, (don't lose your wallet), right? big difference! ok, now about your 24-70mm f2.81, you have 2 strikes against you, 1: the newer version which is, 24-70mm 2.8II, much better than the older version you have. 2: you have an auto-focus issue on top the 1st. issue, which makes the matter worst   one way to find out would be for you to advertise it on e-bay and you'll find out. in fact, you can see the prices of the ones on e-bay and compare them to the one you have. my $0.02

cheerz.

A lot, especially for a lens like that where people really want AF and maybe begin to worry about parts since it is no longer current.

Lenses are usually reparable for some time after they are current. One trick i use to get my gear on the cheap is to buy gear with issues and get them fixed. This lens, for instance, will be lucky to fetch $500 with the bad af. They are selling for $1,000-$1,100 used and working . You can get it fixed for $287 http://www.unitedcamera.com/store/item.aspx?ItemId=180#ShowSelections. Meaning , if you spend less than $300, you are adding $5-600 in your sale price. If you don't want to, contact me and i will give you $ 500 for the lens.
