Oo.... Interestingly enough, I bought a spare battery yesterday from an authorized Olympus dealer here in Malaysia. It is exactly the same as your counterfeit one. Going back tomorrow first thing to get it exchanged.

Have you read this thread? Start with the first post, and you'll see lots of info (with photos) comparing the originals and counterfeits.

Re: Platinum Cameras

Platinum Cameras on Amazon is another alias the POS goes by that sold me the counterfeit, i put it in one of the later replies. http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/53951266

On a side note Amazon needs to fix their listing for this battery because they are adding to the confusion.  For some reason they have it listed twice on the site as two different items both with different ratings, prices, etc. and don't seem to have any intention to condense that to a single item.

I think that maybe he was asking, in your case what did you found different. Same issues of previous posts in this thread or some new caracteristic that helps identify the counterfeits, hence the post title "what's off with yours". My interpretation.

I'm the one told to read the thread, but I posted 6 months ago with pictures of my 4 and made my own conclusions.  So, who's being negligent?

For the sake of research, just asking what convinced this person they were fake.

I feel that weight and case design are the most telling.

Re: Counterfeit Olympus BLN-1 batteries beware

Apologies for the antique thread bump, but this was the first search result I got when I just found myself in an identical situation, so I wanted to add that these same fakes are being sold through Amazon as well:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SK9GCS

I really should have paid attention to the fact that it was coming from a third party and not Amazon themselves, but the "Prime" logo tricked my eyes and I wound up one-clicking it.

Amazon is taking it back of course, but still happily continuing to send them out on the seller's behalf (of course).

Re: Labels can change...

Since this thread is active again I guess I’d like to add that the original battery that shipped with my A3000 has swollen and become unusable while the 2nd battery I got is still fine.

Thank you for the warning

And thank for taking the time to post the photos, etc.

The weight is important as often tiny batteries are inserted into full size cases, so it is important to watch for this even when buying 3rd party batteries.

So if you buy a "genuine" battery from a non authorised seller then you have to assume it is counterfeit.

Good old Olympus , as uncommittal and unhelpful as always . if they can`t tell if its one of their batteries then who can ? .

I think that's a little unfair Adam, as we can see as well as them (if they had it to inspect) that it weighs less, has wrong writing, wrongly molded case, and not bought from their official resellers. .,which they have just warned us about.

Really?

I've got four generic cheap batteries from ebay, all from different sellers, and they all charge no problem at all.

My experience is the same as Adam's, I have had to buy a 3rd party charger.

PS. Adam beware, a lighter weight battery will have very little capacity - despite what it may say on the label.

If they do then I want one !! (at 3rd party prices of course, not sold as an original)
