EX1 EX2

Anyone own both.  IS EX2 an improvement?  I had an EX1 but didn't keep it-biggest drawback for me was poor close-up ability.  Thanks.

Although the EX2F is lightly "out of fashion", I still love this camera because it IS a photographic tool and not only a P&S. I believe that I have a better eye and that my pictures are more elaborated...

Having had the EX1 for a long time, I consider the EX2F a valuable upgrade.

Here you can find a comparison between both: http://snapsort.com/compare/Samsung-EX2F-vs-Samsung_EX1

Hope this helps

Best regards

Re: EX1 EX2

I never had an EX1 but my EX2 does have a habit of ignoring the subject and focusing on the background in macro mode. I have seen this posted elsewhere.

Sometimes it is difficult not to imagine that Samsung put all customer feedback straight in to their spam folder. The EX2f is a nice camera but at least one previous EX1 owner has said a lot of bugs and irritations have not been corrected in the EX2. The firmware is still very much mid level point and shoot and is not even near what you get with an LX7, or the Olympus XZ's.

My advice would be to see if the EX3, if it ever appears, has the NEX firmware otherwise steer clear if in doubt. The EX2f is an excellent camera in many ways but there has been little sign of any new code having been written for the camera as far as I can see. Contrary opinions will be welcomed. Edit: The Olympus enthusiast cameras have had the PEN software implemented and unless Samsung bring their top level firmware down rather than bodge their low level firmware up they will inevitably fail.

A new big big problem with the EX2f is the WIFI control being the right cursor as if you think you are navigating a menu and press it the camera locks for seconds until you can cancel. Also there are long locks when you change mode and a help screen comes up. If anyone knows how to circumvent this please tell.

A lot of these problems could be fixed with a firmware upgrade but they have only fixed the wide angle distortion as far as I can tell. Firmware upgrades are badly documented.

Edit: Just to balance things a bit I should not forget the fact that you can get high resolution now on the EX2f and take simultaneous stills without interruption which few cameras can achieve. This is why given the choice the EX2f is better from my point of view.

Thanks for the replies so far. I might wait and see what the NX Mini is like.
