Re: Need advice

I really like the Sigma 18-250 (newest version). It still has all the typical problems with softness and distortion that are common with most superzooms, but it is light and versatile. With proper editing software you can easily correct a majority of the issues.

Re: Need advice

There are dozens of threads on this topic.   Right now, the new 18-250 Sigma is best regarded in popular magazines.  Next month it will probably be a different lens.  I would suggest you do a search hear and on the Third Party Lens Talk forum.

If you are not happy with the Nikon 18-200 maybe you should ask if any superzoom is the answer?

It's asking an awful lot of a lens to perform over that sort of range and while one might be slightly better than another in one or other aspect, it's always going to be a huge compromise.

I think it might be worth trying to adapt to a shorter range zoom or even prime that gives the sort of IQ that makes the extra effort worthwhile.

Re: Need advice

I don't think you'll get much out of an 18-200 as you already have the 18-140, I wouldn't bother with that as you can easily crop and the difference between 140 and 200 is not actually that much.

Whichever lens you get in this range will be a compromise.

I'd consider the 18-300, which is heavier but maybe what you are looking for.

Yes...sit down and figure out what your needs are, and then proceed from there.
