Re: I have the NX 30, and am getting.................

One of the things I noticed in my limited time with it, is that the Fn touch screen button is actually in a really nice place.
however switching to RAW isn't really intuitive.
Beyond that the grip is amazing.. I really thought it would be too big but it sits in my hand so wonderfully.
I really want one.
But I'm back to that old is Samsung going to survive in the Camera Market should I just get a Fuji or Sony.
Thankfully I'm a ways away from having to decide.

Hi Allan,

press ok and the green button afterwards (that will center/reset some settings to the default one so that you do not need to manually position the frame)...while I do not really get why the focus box should move when you press the iFN....

I do not see what links this...

Cheers, Tjobbe

Ha so that's how it's done. There is just one problem here mate. I assure you, I am NOT colour blind, but either you have a different NX30 to me, or someone on the Samsung assembly line ran out of green paint when my 30 was manufactured. I have a red button, (video), but there is no green one in sight.

The Ifn button is prefectly placed on the lens, isn't it?

Well on this topic I can's say anything, as I don't use RAW. On my GX10, a Samsung DSLR, i used RAW exclusively. But I can't see the point of using RAW in an NX camera, as to my mind, the tiny increment of quality that is gaind through RAW on these cams, is not worth the extra work to "develop," the image. No, IMHO an NX jpg, (well the three I've used, the NX300, the Galaxy NX, and now the NX30), is excellent. I've posted an image below that is an unedited SOOC jpg from my NX300. It has enough detail and sharpness for my needs. I haven't had enough time to try this with the NX30 yet.

Beyond that the grip is amazing.. I really thought it would be too big but it sits in my hand so wonderfully.

The grip is the best that Samsung have made so far, IMHO that is but YMMV on that subject.

I really want one.

Yeah, Samsung is going to survive. In fact I think, (hope), that they'll not only survive, but thrive and prosper.

The GREEN button (not like Pentax).................

On the NX20 The green button (unlike the useful one on Pentaxes) is a pain in the proverbial , it resets stuff to defaults , prob is that you can`t choose what it resets so if you press it to reset the focus point, it resets the exposure comp and the aperture ends up wideopen as well , it`s also in a very prominent position (kinda where ISO or Exposure comp should be) ..

If they`ve removed this button off the NX30 and replaced it with a Fn button or something else useful then GREAT ..

I bet there`s someone here who loves this button - LOL

The idea is that you leave it in RAW all the time  ..

So Oliver my friend, how do I make a custom button act like a green one. Is it simply a matter of dabbing some green paint or nail varnish on it?

sorry Allan, should have been more precise: the delete button -> configure it to the reset option (should be the third selection)

Strange moment for these consideration. Now with NX30 and premium lenses +NX1 rumored for photokina Samsung camera future looks better then  ever.

I don't use iFN at all. I dislike it, and I have never had a situation where it was faster to use that using the direct dials my fingers are on.

I also have a lens that doesn't have a iFN button on it.

As for JPG vs RAW it is a personal choice thing. I shoot RAW, I don't condemn people, particularly Samsung users on this board as the photos here are rarely processed.

I'm never sure with Samsung. I still can't rent a Samsung Lens, I am the only Samsung shooter I know in my circle. Market penetration is very low in Canada.

I'm not ready to jump ship.. the 16-50 has me staying for a while. I even bought an extra lens, instead of a new camera because that lens was coming.

I'm optimistically cautious.

As you say jpg vs Raw= personal choice. We are all different, aren't we? It's just that Samsung jpgs are so flipping good these days, that it necates the need to go through all the rigmarole of using RAW, for the limited ammount of IQ that one would gain from doing so. Take care and enjoy youself taking photo's, and show them here.

Hi Oliver the "problem," with the FP frame has been resolved now, whatever was causing it. I did a caera "RESET," no joy. Removed the battery over night, but it back in the morning, did another, "RESET." Voila, job done. the FP screen is not in the centre, and stays there. It wasn't a big deal anyway, but an annoyance. All well and good now though. I am getting used to the camera, and have to say it is a nive one. I thought that it would not be able to replace the NX 300. which, in my mind was the best all round camera that I have had the joy to use in a long, long time. But the 30 is certainly growing on me.
