I have the NX 30, and am getting.................

aquainted with it. First impressions are:-

It is a nice camera to hold, it has a good ergonomic design.

The rear screen is nice with its fully articulated ability.

Fast focusing, and write speeds.

The screen is a little  annoying to me at the moment, it seems so tiny, even compared to the NX300, but put it beside the Galaxy NX and, well, there's no competition, is there? The GNX is a marvellous camera for manual focus work, as you can really see the parts of the image that are in focus, especially so, when one uses the DMF and the coloured edges to indicate focus points. The screen of the NX30 does not show this so clearly, because of it being smaller. But we shall see.

I have not had a great deal of time with it yet, so I may have to revise my thoughts as I get more used to the camera.

One of the most underrated cameras on the market. Somehow Samsung is known for smartphones, TVs, computer screens... but not that much for photographic cameras, even though they make pretty good lenses in cooperation with German Schneider Kreuznach Optics.

The articulating EVF is excellent, wish all my cameras had it! Sure bits higher resolution, but bulky and not as elegant Olympus VF4 viewfinder.

I concur about the "underrating," of Samsung cameras. I started my Sammy journey with the GX10, (a Pentax K10 clone). But Samsung did their own bit with the GX10, including the image processing, and I preferred the Sammy image to the Pentax one. I still have the GX10, and use in every once on a while to ensure it keeps working. As I said, I love the screen, except for the size of it. But when you put it alongside the Galaxy NX whew, there is quite a difference in size. The GNX is a beast compared to the NX30, but the GNX screen is a thing of beauty, for all that.

Congrats Allan

I bet the NX30 is nice change after the GNX general handing wise other than tripod landscapes though . Admittedly I`ve not spent long with a Galaxy NX but the whole pregnant NX20 stuck to a Galaxypad thing didn`t work for me when I tried one .... I'd have thought the 30 may have had the same screen as the 300 ??

I`ve reverted back to the NX1000 .. I Sold the 20, I found it actually slower, through the menus, shot to shot and and less consistent focus wise than the NX1000 and 1100 for some bizarre reason. Loved the twisty screen though .. I do prefer the 200/300/1000 format overall in a mirrorless though , I`ll wait for the NX300 replacement ..

Hi, Adam, thanks for the, "congrats." The Galaxy NX is a dream machine for landscape and Macro work. If you've never seen one in action you really should try to have a look. Listen, I'm hopeless at explaining things, but I'll try here for you. If you use the DMF function, and the colour highlighting action, it works like I've never seen, on any other camera. I used a Schneider-KREUXNACH-D-Xenon 100m.m MACRO lens, (a rebadged Pentax). I had the camera set to DMF=ON, colour=RED. When the Galaxy NX is focused on any perticular point on the item to be photgraphed, if you slowly move the focussing ring on the lens, you can clearly see a RED horizontal liine moving either up or down the image, depending upon which way you are turning the focus ring.  Where do you live, Adam is it close to S. Wales? Come up and we can have day of it.

As for the NX30's screen, it doesn't seem to be as bad in sunlight as the 300 was, but saying that, the 300's problem was easily solved with that Vikuiti anti glare screen from Germany. The 30's tilting VF certainlt helps with macro use in sunlight though. But I think I will still get another German screen for the 30, will let you know here, if and when I do so.

You start loving it when using it and you will ignore the CONS (which it has enough of) after a while.....

...and Portrait with the 85mm is a great especially when you review the image post shooting with your peer.

Note: the rear screen cannot be big enough as size matters

Well I hope you are right. I'm sure I will, as I have with the other Sammy cams that I've used, each for their own reasons.

Well this is a coincidence. I snapped a few this morning, without telling her, (my peer). But all I got was, "You can delete that lot when you like! They are clear though."

As you say it does matter, mate. The GNX, although enormous in comparison, did a really good job at Landscapes, and Macro shots. Cheers Oliver, have a good day mate.

I have , but only tried "normal" pics with it,  and Gladly handed it back - LOL . Sounds great for manual focussing stuff though , probably would be good for product work but I use smaller sensor cams and the G1X for that (DOF)

I liked the 20`s full twister for that , I much prefer it to the tilt design even if its less handy for waist level

Have to agree Allan as a landscape guy , once I used the GNX I was ruined for anything else . Will wait to see if a mk2 comes out with the new sensor in it.Enjoy the NX30 I was a hairs breath from getting it until I got the tip off about the GNX on amazon.

Yeah I suppose the smaller sensor cams are easier to handle than the almost, "brick sized." GNX too, lol. I still love the GNX for macro work though. I'm off to Barry Island, (of Gavin & Stacey fame), today, and am taking the GNX with Macro lens, and the NX30 with me. I hope I get something reasonable.

Now, there again we differ. I can see the use of a full tlter screen, just have no use for it myself, as I don't do, "selfies," so the 300 tiltable up and down was perfect for me. It gave easie access for low level, (saves getting down on my ageing knees), macro/close up shots. Also tilting it down gives the ability to get some height for overhead crown shots, or just up looking down shots. I'll have to see today, how the 30's screen performs in bright sunlight.

Yep, once that screen has been seen in use, it ruins anyone for anything else, lol. I has a surveyor here last week, and he took some pics of the front of our house. He showed me the image on his compact camera scree, I went into the living room and got the GNX and took the same photo that he did. Boy, was he gobsmacked when I returned the compliment, showing him my image of the GNX's screen, which was bigger than his camera. ROTFL

I`m sure you will !! . give you chance to give the 30 a good trial too

I don`t either, the twister comes into its own when doing overheads (flippers don`t flip down enough), group shots etc from funny angles (twisting to the side isn`t only for Video) and for avoiding the sun as they twist anywhere, what I really like is that they fold in to protect the LCD and also avoid irritating touch screen issues (depending on cam - not the NX20 of course) without disabling touch in the menus

I found the 20 to be OK despite the age of the screen tech, you can always twist it to shield it anyway . what I didn`t like was the EVF optics, it was always blurry in one corner or another , the EVF itself panel was fantastic but you can see why Panasonic EVFs stick out too far at the back - the optics are a lot better - I hope with the new tilting EVF thing on the 30 is a lot better in this regard than the 20 , I`d think that moving EVF would be perfect for macro work , it`d be like looking into a Microscope

Ah right. I haven't use a twister enough yet to see the full advantages, but have to agree about the tist away to cover the screen from acidental, "nose touches," lol.

I thing the screen is too small for MACRO work, although must admit that I haven't used it much for anything yet, let alone Macro, so it MAY be just my personal feelings. Perhaps, I'll see if I can fit some macro in next week.

its an underrated camera with a user interface a bit to early for the market....on the other side, you get if basically for free nowadays

But still, the GNX 4,77" screen stands out on its own where as the NX2000 suffers a bit from the fixed LCD without EVF option, where despite the NX300 is a tad smaller the swivel screen is more versatile.

sure I have seen GNX. Its screen is huge! However, it is much better to compose with NX2000 than with any other 3 inch screen camera.

NX2000 does look better for composing than as you mentioned 3 inch. I think it is same sensor as nx300. so it is good, and if for free, the better. I think it is good replacement for nx200. or back-up for nx300.

Hi Oliver, it seems that i am in the minority here about the NX30. The 30's screen is smaller than the 300 screen. The 30 screen, being fully articulated gets tangled in the neck strap when turned out to a level postion for waist level shooting. I am having problems with the focus point, there being no "centre," option for it. Everytime I alter anything on the Ifn button the focus oint moves, and has to be put back in the centre. I know it's only one press of the OK button, and move the FP with the command dial around the OK button, then another press of OK. But it is a pain to be having to do this every time. How can I lock the FP to the centre position.

Hi Allan,

press ok and the green button afterwards (that will center/reset some settings to the default one so that you do not need to manually position the frame)...while I do not really get why the focus box should move when you press the iFN....

I do not see what links this...
