The building image is astounding. Can someone show me an image of that scene from a D800? I know somebody has one.

Not bad but ...

Not bad but nothing spectacular. It seems there is a better DR, indeed but, at a sharpness level, it seems to be a bit under what can churn out a Merrill.

from end of May, no further information about sharpness settings, JPEG compression level etc etc - and yet you can already make qualified comparisons with the DP2 Merrill.

An amazing feat!

Who needs RAWs from the production DP2 Quattro and SPP 6 - the verdict is out.

Re: Not bad but ...

Referring to the city and tower block image, it reminds me more of the look of the SD15 era than Merrill. The images do have a really clean look. Good also to see that there is no evidence of colour moire in the verticals of those balconies. There is something going on with the handrails though, like stair-stepping, but maybe a resolution or jpg thing?

Even.

I will try to find a shoot I made with my DP2m similar to the leaf shoot.

I doubt you will convince many even if you are right.  Apples and Oranges.  I would just be patient and wait until someone can put the cameras head-to-head.  Then  you can tell.

What's the point right now?

Wait for the production DP2 Quattro and SPP 6.

But you are not intersted in the DP2 Quattro amymore, if I remember correctly.

Remember OOC jpg. On Merrill the OOC jpg is not so sharp as raw

Re: Not bad but ...

As I said and stated : The difference between Merrill and Quattro is Marginal. You wont see a big evolution. Only in the camera handling, bit more quicker, bit more DR but a lose in "foveon" effect. I endorse the post when someone says he seen it more like SD15 rendering.

And I do not speak about sharpness. Overrated.

So that means you have seen other photos to draw these conclusions?

I've seen these stair-stepping thing in my "medium" and "low" raws but they didn't appear in "high" raws of my SD1m shots. So, maybe it is a price of the 4:1:1 ?

lose of foveon effect or Merrill effect? SD15 is still foveon.

These photos appear to be in-camera JPEGs with default sharpening. The in-camera sharpening of current Sigma cameras isn't up to par with SPP so I prefer to set it to minimum to avoid artifacts...

Re: I uploaded the samples to my Onedrive cloud

Thank you for providing those samples!

I'm happy to see far better examples now, than the ones Sigma provided so far.

-

Those examples seem to be OOC JPG and in this regard they are in my opinion in the expected ball park (which means: very good for APS-C OOC JPG)...

...except of the ISO 200 leaf (SDIM0016.jpg)...

...it is already soft (probably due to noise reduction, if there is no focus error)...

...and we have to remember that this is ISO 100 (D800) equivalent:

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/53857097

-

Now,

remember that the following critic in regard of the OOC JPG pictures,

is critic on a high level - no need to throw stones or smth....

-

The grass, which is in focus in picture SDIM0072 shows jaggies, maybe due to sharpening...

The railing in picture SDIM0320 shows not only jaggies, but also the doubling of this artifact:

At the bottom of the building it seems to be a double railing (the horizontal structure / handrails) with jaggies...

...which becomes thinner and thinner from floor to floor, until it is a single railing with jaggies...

...however, this is due to the perspective, that makes the double railing (handrails) look like a single railing (handrail) - at higher floors.

-

The vertical structure within the railing, where normaly the most obvious demosaicing artefacts (with Bayer pattern sensors) appear, or funny structure inventions from the classical Foveon - is rendered pleasently.

-

All in all, it is like it was expected:

In regard of artifacts not perfect, but the best approach so far...

-

However, noise, which was not expected as a problem, seems to be a problem...

...even at (D800) ISO 100 equivalent (SDIM0016.jpg)...

-

Like I already mentioned here:

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/53858754

The unexpected high noise floor, may be a software problem and / or a sensor problem (weighting of the layers / layer thickness and / or the influence of the wiring of the top layer in regard to the lower layers)...

...however, both problems can be solved in future with a Quattro-s sensor and SPP 7 or smth...

...at the moment, it still seems to be a base ISO (50 / 100) camera for special purposes...

...which is not bad, but not as good as I hoped it would be - so far.

Enlarged(irfanview showing 57%)building-image no. 320(2nd link) on my 27" screen looks still sensational at 50cm distance. details are a bit blurry but can be distincted. aslo good detail in he roof of the little buidling in the foreground below.

how much better will be the raw?

Unbelievable ! no 320 IMAGE accidentally enlarged to 213 x 320cm. must be a good OMEN!

How fantastic must look that poster when DP3Q mosaicing is done!
