Great price, great optics on an ultra-wide zoom from Canon

Love it. Was reviewing ultra-wide-angle zoom lenses for my T3i. Have always wanted something wider for landscapes and interior shots. By accident I came across a new press release on this lens from Canon. Saw the low list price on genuine OEM Canon optics and took a quick trip over to my local camera store for some hands-on impressions. A few minutes later I left with one. Have been very happy with its optical performance so far. I am not a pro shooter so the fact that is has "kit build" components throughout (meaning plastic) is not a negative factor for me. Indeed, it's a huge plus. I'm not hard on my equipment and tend baby all my photo investments (take care of your stuff and your stuff takes care of you). I appreciate the smaller size, lighter weight and smaller filter requirements (67mm vs. 77mm) found with the other Canon lens I tested. My camera bag is already crammed with do-dads and a few ounces and inches less here and there helps. The auto-focus motor system offers me the silent operation I want for video, too. Really, for a very reasonable price, you get a great Canon lens with the 35mm equivalency of a 16mm to 28mm lens. I'll probably never use it off the 10mm end of the zoom ring. It'll be my favorite utility ultra-wide lens forever. The rest of the zoom range is just a bonus as far as I'm concerned. I'm having fun with it. Thanks for listening to your customers, Canon.

Mine arrived this morning and I haven't done much beyond a few test shots to make sure it's working.  Looking forward to the weekend and some extended  opportunities to try it out.

I bought that yesterday and I've taken few shots already. I like it, great small lens and really value for the money. Only disadvantage is plastic mount but I don't bother much for that. I'm using on my Canon 60D. Other lens I've is Canon 18-200mm.

Recommend to others.
