Olympus E-PM2 or Olympus PEN E-PL5 ( Which?)

So after years of heavy use, my ( refurbished ) Olympus e-PL-1 is falling apart;
IS[1] is kaput, clunking and blinking red in the display and front mount is getting loose
( general wear ). I use Teles quite a bit, putting extra strain on the body.

In thinking about another Camera:

These two ( PL5 and PM2) come up;

Both have The "New Sensor" ( Right ? )

Thanks..

PM2 for price and size

PL5 for frequent PASM mode switching. Personally I switch between S and A not too often.

Also for the ability to assign MySets to the Mode dial.

Also E-PL5 for tilt LCD which makes reflections less and better allows odd shooting positions. The tilt also good for touch screen focus and shoot.

Some of my notes found from here.

PL5 for the added controls. Although I would try to find a used or refurbish E-P5. Although as of today they have a lot of cameras out of stock.

Thanks !

I have purchased from  cameta ( they are a "brick & Mortar" vendor and do answer the 'phone.)

Very reliable site, but everyone suddenly is buying them out ( Hooray for them ! )!

Yes both have the 16Mp sensor

Also both have the touchfocus and touchshoot from any point on the screen.I have both bodies and the only big feature difference i can think of off the top of my head is the good tilting screen on the e-pl5

I bought my refurb E-P3 from them almost 3 years ago and it has served me well.

I just had this debate, and the awesome people here all steered me to the E-PL5.  I bought it earlier this week, and it just showed up last night.  After my first day of shooting with it, I am already in love.  And while I thought the tilt screen wouldn't be a very useful feature, I actually got a lot of use out of it today.  Also, it's nice to have the selector on the top to switch between modes quickly as other have said.

Good luck with your choice, but from someone who JUST went through this debate, I 100% recommend the E-PL5.

Cheers!

If you like small, a PM2 with 20mm is awesome.

Now, after reading all the comments leaning toward the PL5.
They Both , I believe, have a SONY  sensor ( which, in FF mode is spectacular but heavy & EXPENSIVE ! ! )
But will get the large portion of that  of that in the PL5
ISO is The Same as in the SONY Alphas ( 100 - 25600 ) so we may surmise the same FAB technology is identical / used in both .
Factory refurbs are available; ( OTOH May buy new )
So it's just pulling the trigger !

Thanks again!

You'll get the exact same images out of either body.  Which means that you're paying for the extra features of the E-PL5.  When I bought the PM2 late last year, there was a much larger price delta between the PL5 and PM2, enough where it swayed me to the PM2.  No regrets, but considering the prices are closer now (although there have been some really cheap, $200 PM2/kit lens deals lately), the PL5 has dropped enough where unless you're really counting pennies, that body is the way to go.
