Hey guys!

So I am completely new to DSLR's. I am looking for a quality camera that takes sharp and clear photos, but is light and small enough to take with me when I travel/camp. I have narrowed my choices to the 3200 or 3300. Bestbuy has a 3200 Bundle with an 18-200mm lens, Nikon bag, and the 3200 with standard lens for $529. Here's the link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/nikon-d...579150&skuId=3643029&st=nikon d3200&cp=1&lp=3

I REALLY liked the D3300, but I also liked the 3200 enough as well. Is the 3300 worth the price difference, especially given the bundle deal? I am not upgrading from any camera fyi, this will be my first. I can afford both. Which one should I get if I value: lightweight, compact, sharp and beautiful images? Any advice? Thanks!

IMO between those two cameras, buy the d3300. Check Amazon. They've got a similar kit bundle for just a couple hundred bucks more plus it comes with a bunch of other stuff (sd card, tripod, uv filters, cleaning kit, bag, etc) and you'll be getting the newer model camera.

and remember to enjoy and take photos!

Can't really advise you on which camera body. I liked the feel of both when I handled them in store.

I do own the 18-200 VR however and even on my MP poor D60 (10) and D90 (12) this lens tends to be soft. It does focus pretty quickly (esp compared to the 18-55 kit) and the VR works well but from what I have read the 24MP sensors of the 3200 and 3300 will show its weaknesses.

If you a looking for a mulitpurpose solution, that is also light and compact like your body selection, I suggest looking at the 18-105 VR. I think it is a very good match with the smaller bodies. I have an 18-135 which is virtually the same size but without VR and I really like it as a walk around on my D60. If you are really looking for ligihter kit, the 18-200 is noticeably heavier (though there are obviously heavier lenses out there). Also another minor difference from a portability perspective - the 18-200 hood is much bulkier than the 18-105's, and you can access the zoom ring with the 18-105's on in the reverse 'stowing' orientation.

Haven't handled the 18-140 but it has good reviews - midway between the 18-105 and 18-200 weight wise.

If I had my time over I would have waited to get an 18-105 (super scare in late 2008 due to Thailand floods) and passed on the 18-200. For me, many of my 'walk around' shots would fall within the 18-105 range.

The money you save could get you a 35mm f1.8 - also well matched to the smaller bodies and for the money a great little lens (or go towards a flash or a longer lens). Or/and a second battery if you are in the wilds.

woops - that's a lot of words for someone who owns neither camera - good luck.

The practical/functional difference between the D3200 and the D3300 will be imperceptible at best.

Pocket the money and enjoy your new D3200 camera.

**** Also, heads up, these do not appear to be the "VR" type of lens in the Best Buy offering? Just so you know going in. ****

I went with the D3300, because it was slightly smaller and lighter, which appealed to me. I got it new from a reputable chain electronics store for $550. Was this a good price?

Assuming you got it with the kit lens then yes, that was a good price. Enjoy!
