Testing out my new Oly 45 1.8... I'm Astounded!
16

Hello folks,

Just got a super cheap Oly E-PM2 and 45 1.8 combo. (God bless eBay!) I have to say that I love it... so small, light - and image quality out of this world. Still haven't clicked any people with this lens yet... but I can imagine the results will be awesome. I really wonder if any other m4/3 lens can match this kind of IQ...75 1.8 I am assuming; but that thing is a monster in every way.

Hope you liked the pics...please do leave  a comment...and share your experiences with the 45 1.8!

Sincerely

Abhishek

Nice set of photos, like the last one too.

Are you using any presets (or film simulator) with these, because I am a little surprised at the level of noise given this low ISO.

Indeed, beautiful photos. I like them much.

But, excuse me for being picky: with the Panasonic-Leica 42.5/1.2 or with the Voigtländer 45/0.95 you are able to achieve similar if not better results on a micro four thirds body.

IMHO the Oly 45 1.8 is the sweet spot 45ish lens for m43.

You tried it at wide open, let's try it at smaller apertures too shallow DOF is not always the best to every scene.

Congrats!

I use the exact combo to picture my little granddaughter. Absolutely fantastic. Love the sharpness, the bokeh, the weight Of this lens and the tiny camera. The touch screen makes it so easy for me to shoot at low angle. Use this much more these days than all other gears combined.

Excellent choice.

Thanks! No...a bit of PP using Nik's Photo Effects. Guess I erred on the size of noisy!

Thank you Franz! One day, I shall be able to afford the 42.5/1.2. Till then, this will have to do...

Day One with the lens was bound to be F/1.8...  I shall post more with the lens stopped down...

Thanks for writing!

The 45mm can produce lovely results and represents amazing value for the money, IMO.  After you've used it for a while I'm not sure you will still be lusting to spend $1,600 on a lens that gives "similar" results, though.

Results as good perhaps, but not with the same feather weight, compactness, and economy.

Is the Voigtlander AF?

Cheers, geoff

Excellent photos!

I have this lens too and I find it outstanding.

I have also found that with digital teleconversion (DTC) set at 2x, it serves as a wonderful 180mm f1.8. You might enjoy trying this and seeing if you like it.

In terms of IQ...

The Panny 25 1.4 and Siggy 60mm have better IQ than the Oly 45. That said, the difference is mostly academic really since the 45 is very good regardless.

Oh and, great shots btw! Stretch that EPM2 to the limits with that nice lens!

I'd have to agree with another post here that these aren't very sharp. I certainly wouldn't want to buy this lens from the examples I see here. Even though these are shot wide open the flowers are soft in each frame. Not sure if it's the lens or bad technique but my Leica 25mm f1.4 blows this away. The second basket shot has a ton of noise with a lot of color aberration. The third though shot at 200 ISO shows some terrible pattern throughout the image. Amazing what people will put up on this forum and boast "I really wonder if any other m4/3 lens can match this kind of IQ".  I would hope not or we'll all be in trouble.
