Maybe I'm crazy...

but, I like the Canon 100-400 better then the Tamron 150-600. I have had the opportunity over the last week to use a both lenses out doors for wildlife and I think the Canon gives me a better chance at getting the shot. I didn't do tests, I just hiked around my favorite trails with each lens mounted on my 60D and used them the way that I naturally would. The quality of the photos and AF performance seemed exactly the same to me, but I noticed a big difference in weight and size. The Canon is so much more compact and will fit in a much smaller bag mounted to the camera then the Tamy.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Tamy is well worth the $$ and is probably the better deal. In my case, I can get a 2009 Canon lens for exactly the same price as the new Tamy.

If I was just heading out to say an Eagles Nest and camping out with my tripod, the Bigron would be the way to go. But, for the hiker with other gear, I’ll take the Canon every time.
