Digital Photographer Philippines 8 and Pentax
6

Last weekend, the annual Digital Photographer Philippines was and this time, Pentax was a major sponsor of the event. I think everyone there took notice especially when they revealed the limited edition K50 Philippines (just your regular K50 in the Philippine flag colors and just 500 of them will be produced AFAIK) and then literally poured water on it. It was funny on how all of the photographers at front row immediately shielded their cameras and moved away a bit from the main stage.
Almost all the big brands were represented except for Olympus who was a no show and there were tons of discounts on lens and bodies.

I was just happy that Pentax was finally represented and in a big way. There are other photos but I'm just being lazy walking upstairs to get the memory card from my K5II

The local who's who in photography got their stage time and also Eric Kim was a special guest.

Free lens and body cleaning from a Pentax technician that came all the way from Cebu! My K5II and Kr was next on the list. He was actually surprised that he got swamped more than the Fuji and Canon stalls, free cleaning service from Canon and Sony was a no show.

There was also the Canon and Sony group.

And if you are a Pentaxian, you get to have a free K3 t-shirt and you were allowed to play around with the 645D and 55mm f2.8 it is such a lovely lovely camera.

Got to talk too with Pentax/Ricoh management from Japan, Pentax is coming out strong and when we asked if there is a FF on the way, he jokingly zipped his lips.

Re: Digital Photographer Philippines 8 and Pentax

That's pretty positive all round stuff for the brand. It's good they are finally pushing themselves into marketing at least in shows like this. I guess Pentax is strong over there?

It supports what we have suspected for the last 12 months or so, that they have improved under Ricoh, there are things happening and the FF gesture was, if anything, humorous.

Interesting to see the X5 on the stand with the model(?) sales person. It's a not so well known or spoken about model, I heard it was discontinued, but cheap and reasonably well spec'd. Its the sort of cam that Pentax needs to keep in some stores to introduce the masses to the brand and was well used recently by the Aus importer as a bundle for $199 thru Aussie post.

Interesting post, thanks.

Since the X5 was released, I think I only saw 1 being used ever! There were only 2 Pentax Q shooters I've seen during the event and the other was me. What was surprising is the turn up of Pentax shooters that I've never met or not even registered within our small Pentax group. I guess there are a lot more Pentax shooters out there mostly using a K30 and a Kr.

Re: Digital Photographer Philippines 8 and Pentax

I mentioned on another thread the other day, the increase in stock and sales here in Perth. One shop said it's all changing from the big two to a bit of everything and another store had a pile of K50 or 500 twin lens kits that he said were selling well..............a work colleague purchased an X5 as well. Moving along nicely........all bodes well for more $$ means more R&D means more products and the circle carries on.
