What Is The Best Camera app You Have Found

I like the camera that came standard on my Note 3.  Although, I also like the "Camera FV-5" app.

I like the touch scree focus of the standard Note 3 camera (the FV-5 will not do the touch screen focus).

Using the FV-5 I like when it gives me the shutter and ISO after the shot but it would be much better to be able to set before the shot.

Just looking for other good camera apps.

It does for me. Select the "AF" icon at the bottom of the screen (second from the left) to activate Focus Mode selection, then touch the icon that has a hand with extended finger (third from the right).

You can also select touch metering, and you can have focus and metering at two different places — touch-and-hold for metering, quicker touch for focus.

As for other apps, I use Snap Camera for ordinary photography and Camera360 Ultimate for fun photography. If you like easy access to tons of settings, or if combining shots into wide-angle and/or panorama is your thing, you might like Pro Camera.

I'd probably use VSCO Cam, because these days I do most of my editing in VSCO Cam, except that the camera part of their app isn't ready for prime-time. Among other things, it gets the EXIF wrong.

Thanks Doug for the help.  Yep, I selected the hand icon and now love the touch capability.

I tried Camera360 and VSCO and didn't like either and took them off.  For now I will use the Note 3 default camera and FV-5.

I want to see if I will actually enjoy using my Note 3 for more causal photography.

Again, Thanks

I use A Better Camera, you touch on any subject in the frame, it focuses and shoots at one touch and the result is quite sharp.

Is A Better Camera usable these days? Back when I tried it, it was total junk. It had all of these cool settings and adjustments, but it couldn't take a picture. Which kind-of made the whole thing pointless, and gained them a 1-star review from me.

VSCO Cam

William Curtindale wrote:

VSCO Cam is quite a different app. It's mainly a non-destructive editor for applying various tonal and color renditions, many of which are oriented toward achieving a film-like look. In My Opinion, it's more suited to the artist photographer than the snapshooter or the serious photographer. Someone recently characterized it as being for analog photographers who're stuck working in digital.

The camera part of VSCO Cam is weak, and it currently records incorrect EXIF data, so I can't really recommend that. I typically use Snap Cam and export the images to VSCO Cam.

The editing part of VSCO Cam uses a non-destructive approach. The "Library" contains your original images, along with a list of the most recently saved settings for each. You can select a library image, clear the settings, and get back to the original photo. Or select a library image and adjust one or two settings, then resave to the library. The "Gallery" contains the processed photos. The files in the Library are generally not accessible with other tools, whereas the Gallery is accessible. There's a subfolder of the gallery that contains temporary processed files that were transferred to other apps, and may need occasional cleaning out.

VSCO also provides the VSCO Grid, an online "minimalist personal gallery" for photos uploaded from VSCO Cam. Yeah, many camera apps have their own cloud storage, but I do think that VSCO is going in a different direction by emphasizing the use of the Grid for artists' exhibits rather than as a dumping-ground for every mobile-phone photo ever taken. VSCO also has a Curated Grid, where they showcase images from the Grid that caught their attention, and their Selects, which are a weekly exhibition of a dozen of so of the best of the Grid from the previous week. VSCO really seems to be serious about art.

Doug, I am giving "A Better Camera" a test run for a few days.  Although, it cost $6.99 to permanently unlock all the features (I assume the features I am using will not be available after some time).

I also like FV-5.

I will also look at Snap Cam.

So far I like the default camera the came loaded on my Note 3 best.

The most objective thing I have found is my Note 3 images them selves (too much NR in the processing - if blown up much looks like a paint image).

I like Perfectly Clear by Athentech.  Good functionality and easy post editing combined.

I've got the Note 2 and its cam is fine.  I've also used the VSCO cam , FV5 lite and pudding camera....I use them all interchangeably....

I would note that, unlike the other apps mentioned, Pudding Camera is unable to take a full-resolution picture.

I am sure the same applies to FV5 Lite.

I Tried Seven Different Camera Apps (Settled On The Note 3 Default Camera)

I have had a lot of fun trying different Android camera apps.  I found many different capabilities (including image quality, recording / saving options and editing capabilities).

After a couple weeks trying several cameras I finally settled back on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 default camera because of recording capability, saving options and image quality (also has image styles).

Cameras I tried and was dissatisfied with for various reasons (removed from my phone):

  • A Best Camera
  • VSCO Cam
  • FV-5
  • Perfectly Clear
  • Snap Camera
  • Camera360 Ultimate

My Note 3 is from Verizon and I still don't have KitKat 4.4.2 (maybe KitKat will also offer some updates to the Note 3 camera).

Re: What Is The Best Camera app You Have Found

I have a galaxy note II and while I find the stock samsung camera app great, I fell in love with Google's camera app. For some reason, the contrast seems better in the pics that I take with google's app.

Moreover, the lens blur feature and the photosphere feature just amazes me.

I'm sharing the link for the Google camera  app article in case you want to give it a shot. It also has the apk download in case you can't find the app in the play store.

Hey, just a quick note to say, have you tried my most fave app. Snapseed. It's like photoshop for android's worth a look at the least.

Re: A Better Camera

Well, we can all conclude in the year 2020 that VSCO has become a new Instagram for teenagers, 90% is pure crap with mostly duck-face selfies, sunglasses and fizzy drinks. No place for serious photographers. The filters in the app are still useful for your smartphone images though.

Re: What Is The Best Camera app You Have Found

I bought Camera FV-5 years ago for an Android 2.3 LG phone and have always kept it as go-to for manual settings on successive phones, recent version 5.x is a real upgrade after years of vegetating. my current Moto is very unforgiving of third-party apps so I'm glad to have found a few that don't bork.

With Camera2 Level 3 enabled on the Moto, I found a fully working basic GCam 6.2 port (another GCam 7.3 is very good but all I want is HDR+ and NightSight simplicity.)

I like to set a full time black and white app, currently the excellent Open Camera spin Hedgecam2, but experimenting with Hypocam.

I do a bit of mobile post with Dramatic Black and White, Snapseed or Photo Mate r3 - more often on a tablet than on my phone, but they're there.

Finally, since some third-party apps like GCam can't or won't access microSD and insist on saving to internal, I use a file swapping app to preset one-click transfers from specific internal folders to mriror folders on the microSD. I also use AutuSync (MetaCtrl) to automate online transfer to a cloud storage service (like to keep Google out of personal things).

Latest few versions of FV-5 broke a ton of things and the user base is NOT happy... if you have an older version, stick with it... if not, don't buy it would be my advice.

The developer is handling the new version of FV-5 weirdly:  free Lite version is still the old version 3.x, but curtails the image resolution.  I like the new version 5.x GUI and Settings navigation, and only have a problem with custom file naming and saving output to microSD, otherwise works very well.  Fingers crossed for future development.

Agree... the older free version has a great rating and users are happy.. the paid new version has users abandoning the product... it has been at least 8 months since folks started complaining and the developer just promises fixes that never come.
