Olympus 14-42II R lens help - please

Could anyone please post a few images (even cropped) taken with this kit lens of close ups of flowers or insects or anything actually.  I really want to see what the lens can do before I accept or send back the E-PM2 I just ordered from Newegg on Friday.

I don't pixel peep, shoot JPEG only, and only view on my 27" iMac, but I expect crisp images when viewed full size.   I've looked all over the WWW but haven't come across any examples.

I would really appreciate it.

Regards,

Den

I don't have any pictures to post right now but the lens won't have any problem doing what you are wanting it to do.  In fact, I think that you will be quite pleased with the quality.  Don't let the photo cork- sniffers dissuade you from using this lens.

Hopefully you got one of the Newegg deals for the kit for $199.99.....today they are listing them at $309...... that has to be the best deal I have ever gotten.....

You will want more lenses. All will cost more than this camera. But they are GREAT lenses and can be used on future micro4/3 bodies..... good luck and I understand if you get cold feet...

Thanks.  I feel confident I will be happy with the IQ of the lens.  I know there are quite a few individuals who always look down on kit lenses/P&S cameras, etc..  In many cases images produced by lesser cameras and lenses equal or exceed those produced by the more expensive camera/lens combo, due to the skill and artistic abilities of the shooter.

Yes, did snag one of those $199 deals, just too good to pass up.  Now just hoping it will exceed my  excellent Panasonic LX7 camera, at least in some situations.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Worst case, use it for a month and sell it for a $25 profit on eBay.

Re: Olympus 14-42II R lens help - please

I think my copy of this lens must be a very bad copy. It must generally be better than my copy. For one thing the test on slrgear.com looks pretty good.

I also have the oly 12-40/2.8, and I just bought a used panny 14-45. I did a test in my backyard comparing the three, and my copy of the 14-42II isn't even close to the other two. I don't mean to be a snob about kit lenses; a lot of my really good images have come from nikon kit lenses. Like I say, it must be my copy. I don't even feel good selling it on ebay.

I bought the panny 14-45 to use on my infrared camera, but I figured I would test it in visible light too. In infrared the panny beats the two Olys Most of the time. And it sure beats this 14-42 in visible light, except regarding weight.

I started out in MFT with this kit lens, and I didn't really warm up to MFT until I got some other lenses. Now I love MFT, but I won't use that lens.

Go here but ignore the photos of the horses they are mine. I inadvertently posted them to this group using the wrong lens, the 40-150mm Olympus.

You can also go the flickr and type "Olympus 14-42mm" in the search field and you will get lots of hits.

Here are a few...not really macro though (you can always get a set of cheap (around $50) extension tubes (the kind with the electronic contacts for M43 lenses) and use them with you kit lens if you want to get closer..., or a close-up lens that screws into the filter threads).

Thanks for posting those.  The flickr site doesn't show many closeups.

yes, somehow this 14-42 lens is also underrated like above comment said, but I like this lens very much.
