Canon 600mm f4.0 ii review with1.4x v3 extender
1

I own both the 600mm v1 and v2 and the 800mmf5.6. The new 600mmv2 is an improved version over the older version 1. The 600mm v2 is base on the same design as the current 800mm f5.6. The image from the 600mmv2 are sharp even at wide open. It has 3 stabilization mode, an additional mode over the version 1 which are not very useful. When use with a 1.4x v3 teleconverter, it does slow down the AF and IQ are also affected. Especially if you shooting BIF, the tracking with the 1.4x is not as responsive , it tends to hunt for the subject more with the attached teleconverter. if you want good IQ and long focal length (800mm) or longer, I would still recommend the prime lens which is the 800mmf5.6. Otherwise the 600mm v2 works is still a good upgrade over the v1 but definately not a direct replacement for the prime 800mm f5.6.

Re: Canon 600mm f4.0 ii review with1.4x v3 extender

The bare lens wins the autofocusing race in almost every case.

I have found the 1.4X acceptable on my 500 but only use the 2X on a tripod.

It is nice to carry extenders instead of more big lenses. (If you have them.)

Why 3.5 stars?  It seems as if you are dinging this lens compared to the 800mm F/5.6 because it is slow on AF with a TC?  Is that so? Then how does the 800mm perform with the same TC? It is widely know that using a TC slows down AF...so your review seems way off mark to me.
