Some more Galaxy NX ones....

Here some more images with the GN120 and e.g. the 60mm (which is a nice comination to handle but an ugly one when it comes to firmware and lensware used, more in a new posting)

Smart mode Miniatur

Smart mode Richtone

Re: Some more Galaxy NX ones....

Before the rant, the good things: the combination is well balanced and its comfortable to hold in your hands for a 2h walk without using any straps, the AF is good, image quality as known from the other 20mpix ones....

so here the issue I do have using the 60mm with the GN120

beside the fact that the Macro lens does not have a hardware switch for MF/AF an that on the GN you need to either configure that onto one of the soft touch buttons in the advance mode UI (whre you are limited to three with one being the AEL non changable and the other two I did use for Display and AF size)  ..or alternate deep dive into the menu

Note for Samsung (in case they read): you should be more flexible here to allow a different configuration of the oft touch button (why not store a different config per the attached NX lensĀ  )

The real issue is that at anytime I swapped AF to MF (which is very common when using it as MAcro as you hardly get to closest focus distance in AF mode -if focused at all that near) the GN120 stopped working completely at least twice (with reboot required...28seconds time to breath normally again :-D) as well as three times the system hung (not accepting any keystroke/touch) but came back after some time and last not least performed a kind of "back to the Android roots" by no longer accepting any Camera Hardware usage (e.g. EVF or release button) until you did do any touch action e.g. pressed the touch shutter release which seemed to have resetted the combination.

I have to say that I did shoot the way more time with the 30mm and the 1855 Kit as I used with the 60mm and I did not have had any of that trouble.

As well, when sitching the GN120 into smart modes the hole thing worked nearly flawless so my assumption is that this is a specific firmware iussue with the 60mm only.

Cheers, Tjobbe

Nice images again , which do you find faster write times to internal memory or sd card in RAW and jpeg. Also have you found you can only do HDR in jpeg and I can only get down to 200 iso , why no 100 iso.

Re: Some more Galaxy NX ones....

Hi Simon,

I do store images on the SD (using a 64GB UHS-1 Sandisk which is good for 20mb/sec write and I did use that via adapter before on an NX300) and load all Android stuff on the internal memory (which based on my 7" tabphone usage is reasonable occupying there about 12GB after 2 years usage as tab only)

HDR is internally processed so its JPEG by definition only within any NX having that feature so far. Note that you do have two HDR modes, one in the setup which gets you some control on the shooting modes and another within smart mode called "Rich tone" that is essentially an HDR as well but obviously working slightly different. Personally I prefer thatas it gets you two output where the first is the "normal one" while the second is the processed one allowing youi to compare the results. Those HDR I did post here are all using that smart mode.

As I believe the GN120 to have a similar RAW performance compared to the NX300/NX30 I decided to shoot JPEG only with the GN120 just to check if I can stand the challenge to put the camera in control of my shooting.

Funny enough the smart modes are working just fine for meĀ

Regards ISO200 being lowest setting, check if you did enable the smart range+ as this uses ISO200 as base to allow boosting the dynamic range. Its located where you enable the HDR in setup

I have seen that and taking it off to find iso still at 200 so it looks like that is it.

strange.. I do get to ISO100 easily.

Did yours updated the firmware to Android 4.2.2 which came with some camera app updates as well ?

Mine tried to update itself asap post the setup so can you check if yours did that as well ? The Android Kernel version would be 17th October 2013

You can check Android versions for all Samsung devices here by region and product

http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=EK-GN120

although I would always recommend to update via OTA or Kies
