Canon 400 mm f5.6 vs Pro-Optic 500 mm f6.3 mirror

I recently purchased the Canon 400 mm f5.6.  I'm relatively new to birding (about 2 years) and until now I have been using a 500 mm mirror.  The mirror had great reach for $ and the best shots taken with it rival glass.  But there are simply fewer best shots with a manual lens.  Still it was a fun challenge to get good shots with such an inexpensive lens.  It is slightly soft compared to glass but that doesn't bother me.  I even like the out of focus artifacts.  But now I understand why the 400 mm f5.6 is so popular for birding and wildlife.  We have had a great spring here in Florida for birds.
