Re: D9300 - For real or just another tease?

Good news. However, until I see a commitment from Nikon to a true DX lens line I still won't bite.

If the only DX lenses they are gonna make are 18-XXX zooms then what is the point...

I just read it too on NR, for the folks who have craved a replacement for their D300 and 300s I hope Nikon has heard their "cries" I'm not in the market I still use and love my old D200 and D700 but I hope its got the heritage of the D300, and all the future goodies, myself I'd like to think it has the "bones of the D700" only a DX, but here's hoping for you all, bring it on Nikon and do it right!!

I think it's likely to be real, and likely to be a pretty direct D300 replacement.

Wouldn't be a D7100 with a bigger buffer, or they'd just call it a D7100s.

Given the big jump in numbering sequence, I'd say it's likely to have the D300 body style.

Given the sensors we've seen lately, it seems likely to be 24mp (at least).

Given a higher model number than D7100, it seems likely to have decent frame rate and buffer too.

If so, I want one, for wildlife.   I'll then quit pushing my D800e into the field so much to shoot birds.

Now I'm starting to salivate over this possible camera, and shudder over the likely cost of an overpriced grip, yet another battery and way-overpriced charger.   And another L-plate from RRS.

My bet would be dual UHS-II slots. 250 mb/s could clear out the buffer pretty quick and guessing 4K video might be in this camera?

Nikon Rumors hinted at a non April fools posting yesterday. They probably had the info then but held for today. NR doesn't post cruel jokes. When he gets more info he will give his probablilty estimation then.

Knew this would happen as soon as I bought a 2nd D7100.

NR is for real, they very rarely miss a release when they say it is likely. Very interesting news.

4K w/ H.265 only requires 20-30 MB/s...

Already the D800 does 69 MB/s with the Lexar 1000x CF card, and the D7100 does 58 MB/s with the 95 MB/s SanDisk cards.

D9300?

So, my question would be:

Will it be relegated to the low end DX forum, or will DPR place it in this forum?

It will qualify for NPS as a backup camera. So I think DPReview would continue with Pro DX.

A double hit Renato...

The D800s and D9300 have the potential to plug the performance gap in their DSLR lineup. It's amazing to me how little excitement there is here surrounding these rumours. Especially since NR seems to be more an underground marketing asset than a real rumour site.

I was just skeptical because of the timing.  With the crap I'm going through with my lemony D7100 I was toying with the idea of selling it and moving to the D600.  I've been shooting my friends the past couple days and I've been impressed.  I would much rather have a pro DX and I think the D9300 will have some surprises in store.   To me it sounds like a new model line so who knows what Nikon has up their sleeves...

D9300?

I've been predicting the "D9000" since 2012.

Seems obvious to me that there will be no DX D400, as that line has changed to FX with the D700, just as the D1/D2 line changed to FX with the D3.

A photograph is more than a bunch of pixels

It's looking like you may be right. Who cares what it is called as long as it delivers. Some have been saying that they(Nikon) haven't been able to get the FPS up with 24 mp with Expeed 3 and needed Expeed 4. I don't care how fast it is just want a quality sensor and a weather proof body at least at D300 standards.

My guess is the "D9x00" will have a water resistant, magnesium paneled composite body, but will out-spec the D300 in every other possible way.

It is a positive sign that there's a rumor of anything above a D7100. But, there's so little specific information about features or timing that it's hard to get very worked up yet. And, quite frankly, it's 2-3 years overdue so I'm more inclined to believe it when there's more concrete-sounding info.

You mentioned the D800s and my fear is that Nikon will do that at 6fps (and I think I saw a rumor to that effect), still avoiding that D700 sweet spot.

Uh huh John...

I think it makes sense that the D800s would only be 5 fps (6 fps w/ grip) at 36 MP. Imagine - only a 50% increase in fps. Who knows - maybe the D9300 will do 9 fps with a grip?

What's with the 6fps?  Did Nikon suddenly forget how to do 8fps or suddently decide that nobody other than D4s users get more than 6fps?  The Fujitsu Milbeaut core in the Expeed 4 is supposed to be able to do 12fps at 24MP.

Great Timing - I can wait to see if this pans out before buying the 7100
1

well i have been working through all the options and had finally decided i plan to stay DX and been looking at buying the d7100 - quite happy with my 16-85 for travel and going FF for that option just makes it way bigger and heavier.

Plus its always in the back of my mind that with all the advances in technology why should i have to go FF ( more a size and weight of lens issue to me) to get great photos?

I was about to buy one this weekend- but  i am going on a cruise - Broome to Darwin - following the coast next week.  The D300s will be given a workout.

So if the rumor works out i will go for the 9300 or maybe get a cheap 7100.

I guess we now wait to see if TH and KR follow up with similar rumors......and hopefully a time-frame.
