When you convert a raw file to jpeg, you loose you place and have to scroll through all the pics again to find where you left off. They corrected this in xe1 but didn't in xa1. Used to drive me nuts but use my xe1 all the time now.

I'd love that too!

Wow! It's been a while!

By now, a lot more people have bought a X-A1 or X-M1, and fallen in love with the photo they can produce.

And maybe, you've been agravated by the little quirks noted in the original post. It's still time to click the thumbs up and let Fuji know it can make the camera even more compelling.

It drives me nuts too! They should renumber the file with something like

DSCF8654.RAF (raw)

DSCF8654.JPG (original jpeg)

DSCF8654a.JPG (1st manual in camera raw dev.)

DSCF8654b.JPG (2nd manual in camera raw dev.)

etc.

No more hunting for files where they don't belong, hundreds of frame down the list (DSCF9261.JPG, really?)

The vast majority of the ergonomic complaints I listed in an earlier have been fixed in the X30. When reading through the list of features, I couldn't believe that, one by one, the issues were addressed. However, in the dpreview interview with Fuji, it was made clear that their focus is on the high end. Therefore we should consider the X-A1/X-M1 as abandoned cameras with zero hope of another firmware upgrade. You get what you pay for.

I like your positive attitude

Currently, the A1 is the best camera if you care more about image quality than focus speed, and at 400$, it was a no brainer to buy it to test out the fuji jpegs and lenses. And as it turns out, my purchases of fuji lenses now amount to multiple times what the camera costed. So maybe it would be wise to polish the camera a little more and let it shine brighter against the competition. Cheap body bait, expensive lenses profits...

I've only had my X-A1 for a few days but here's a few things I wish it would do:  (for some reason you need to "show signature" for the below to show up.  Don't know why)

-- hide signature --

EV compensation up to +3 and down to -3. Now it's limited to +2 and -2. That would help in exposure bracketing interiors with bright windows.

--and while I'm at it, exposure bracketing in steps higher than just 1, like 1.7 or 2 would help.

--and I wish I could choose 5 seconds in the Self-Timer.

Of course, I'm not losing sleep over any of this, mostly just trying to get a workflow going with what the X-A1 can do.

Like most of those who've contributed to this thread, I own an -A1 and love it (as well as an -M1). Have equipped both with the Clearviewer, which works fine for me whenever the need for eyelevel shooting arises. I find the CV indispensable for handheld shooting with MF legacy telephotos like the Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 or the Canon FD 135mm f/2.

Great thread, BTW. Many thanks to the OP.

Add to that list

Make the Movie Mode more flexible.

For those who actually want to use it Give us focus peaking and zebras, allow use of DR Auto, let us change the aperture while recording, improve focusing speed when switching back and forth between points (focus racking), enable zoom for manual focusing, etc., etc.

Set the Macro button to Instant AF when AF is set to manual mode and an AF lens is attached. Have another programmable option for manual AF lenses.

Don't quite understand this one. If I correctly understand what you're talking about, I have this set up on my -A1 via the Fn button, in effect converting the camera to back button AF, with AE lock triggered by a half press of the shutter release button. Are you asking for firmware to switch this to the macro button simply so you can free up the Fn button for another function? Please explain.

Hello Fuji!

Any chance for a firmware update for the X-M1 along with the rest in December? Anything at all would be well received. Don't leave us hanging..

Just been through this Thread and would like to totally agree with Murfac  reply. Its a great little entry level/2nd camera and I think Fuji would do well to realise that, but I suppose it all comes down to sales figures in the end. Shame on you Fuji if you let this little Gem die.

Agree completely! I got the M-1 a couple months ago and have been enjoying it and learning a lot about photography with it. Never had above a P & S before, and I'm grateful for a camera to learn with that has a lot of potential for nice JPEGs without a huge pricetag. I'd love to see some of the firmware updates trickle down to us as well though.

I have a X-A1 which I got while waiting for the X30, as I needed a camera last summer, and my camera store had some good deals. Previously had the X10 which I love, but the X-A1 completely blows that away, especially since I splurged on a 35/1.4 and the 2 kit lenses. So now I don't need the X30, tho may in the future if the sensor size can be increased without hurting the size and quality of the X10/20/30 series. For those who think Fuji should get rid of the entry level X series, I completely disagree. We all can't afford the XT1, XPro, etc and XF glass. Please, Fuji, keep the entry levels, more firmware updates, and add to them if possible. Hope the new camera in early 2015 will be upgrade for the XM/A cameras, and hopefully more XC glass as the 16-50 and 50-230 have been fantastic as far as I am concerned. I'm not a Pro- tho was eons ago when I had fancy Nikon gear- and now just enjoy taking good pics without needing ultra expensive glass and (D)SLR brick-like equipment.

Re: X-M1 and X-A1 Complaints and 5 Firmware upgrade requests.

Somehow my X-M1 produce ugly skin tone when I shoot it with on camera flash in any mode other than the Portrait mode.

If I use portrait mode, mother aperture is locked to F4. I can't change aperture value in portrait mode. However the skin tone seem natural.

This is frustrating. One of Fuji cameras' strength is super intelligent flash. X10 and X100 both produces very good skin tone with their build-in flash.

Anyone figure out how to get good skin tone using Aperture or Manual mode when shooting with on camera flash?

p.s.  I have the same problem when shooting with Fuji EF-42 external flash.
