Like the lizards.

How did you get so close, they are usually very timid ?

Thank you

Well... try try try. Very often they run away, but sometimes not. Or let you take a few shots before they do.

It seems to work best when you approach them very slowly... without any fast movements.

The Close-Up shot of the head is actually 1:1 with the 60mm macro... so really very close...

I think they are also not all the same... some are very shy, others a bit less.

What definitely scares them are shadows, noises, fast movements...

I just try to avoid all that and hope for the best ^^

I was astonished t how close you managed to get for these shots, Oli. Great work. And the bee in mid-air. Whoa!

I fell about laughing when I saw your warning. I took a pic a week or so ago which illustrates exactly that, and have been meaning to post it.

The coconut shell was teeming with hermit crabs when I first saw it. "Oh, this will make a nice little c/u for the website," I said to myself. Then stumbled about casting the thing into shadow, making sudden movements to move my shadow away, not adjusting the camera properly and making sudden movements while trying to do so, and all the while having a less than muttered conversation with myself with expletives included.

When I finally got somewhere near to having the camera lined up, I realized I had lost the picture. You can see the last hermit crab in its borrowed shell exiting the coconut top left!

A lesson learned! LOL!

Cheers, geoff
