The dangers of local camera stores... impulse buying!
3

I've been lusting after the Olympus 60mm macro for a while, and after endless debating I was in the local shop for something else and decided to just bite the bullet and get it.

Wow, this thing is just amazing.  I've been using extension rings, macro diopters and an actual legacy macro lens but this is just way beyond what any of those can do, although the legacy 55mm macro did pretty well, if heavy and harder to use.

The sharpness is what gets me.  Check out that black eyelash hair sticking up in this one and the fur of his ear.

This one was handheld, with heavy wind right after a strong rainstorm.  Horrible conditions but the focusing is extremely quick and made it pretty easy even just standing there.  This isn't a stellar shot but for being handheld in the wind it came out better than I had expected.

And of course, had to get one of my cat.  Cats are nothing if not camera material for a new camera, or lens, or technique, or just plain boredom.

This time of year there are not any insects running around, but I should have fun this summer.  Hope with enough practice and patience to get a few shots like I have seen others post around here.  Skill and experience is where it's at, but the right equipment doesn't hurt!

I really like the big rain droplet in the second picture.

Actually all macro lenses, specially a bit longer (hoovering around 100mm equivalent) are traditionally sharp. I think it is easier to design optics in this range, I am yet to find one which would be tested as so-so, they are always excellent - as your photos prove.
