Fuji X My Attempts at Food Photography

Over the past month or so I've attempted doing some food photography on a casual basis using my X camera collection. What do you think of them?

First, I don't think you need every shot to be shot at wide apertures unless that helps avoid distractions. The shallow depth of field in the spice mound shot is a bit distracting and makes it hard for me to see the subject.

Maybe a table tripod and f/11 would work better.

Take a look at the photos in some some good food magazines for some tips on composition and depth-of-field.

The second shot suffers from uneven lighting where the lower part of the dish is in shadow. Maybe a reflector or video light could be used to provide more even lighting?

Keep practicing!

Uh... isn't the entire point of shallow DOF to make the subject stand out clearly from the background?

OT: These look really good.

I agree with regards to the delicious looking dish, but with the spice, I think the shallow depth of field adds to the image. I don't want to be distracted by the table or the spoonbowl. I thought it was well executed.
