It's new A7 series firmware day! Where to look?

Well here in Oz, and therefore in Japan, it's 19 March. Midday.

Should be new firmware day! Where to look for it???

Still nothing and I've been looking since I got to work this morning.

You would think that when Sony Japan announces they would be working off their time zone.

Going by the Japanese working day, it'll probably drop at about 23:30 local time, in time for the last train.

No details on the image quality enhancement. Interesting.

Re: It's new A7 series firmware day! Where to look?

Thanks! And all installed. The installer was in English despite coming from the Japanese site!

All works, and all my settings are preserved.

So how about one of our Asian friends installing the update and reporting back?

You can safely install it from the Japanese site; I just did. Of course above there is a link to the Australian site if you are worried!

any good things you notice after the upgrade i.e image quality as stated initially?

Startup time is faster than before with new firmware

I just updated the firmware on my A7.The startup time has indeed been improved.

To early to reach any conclusions about IQ improvement.I'm assuming Sony is talking about IQ improvement for the jpeg engine.

File sizes about the same..

So I've shot a couple of frames.

The file sizes are about the same (37.5MB) so I doubt that lossless compression has been implemented. But I didn't expect that; the clamour for it started to late to have influenced Sony in time for this update.

It certainly starts up much faster. The focussing on the FE24-70 seems faster, but I may be kidding myself.

Re: It's new A7 series firmware day! Where to look?

As I posted elsewhere, file sizes the same so RAW files likely the same (i.e. lossy compression, not that it matters much)

I don't shoot JPEG so I'll leave that to others to look at!

Definitely starts faster; maybe AF faster.

Re: It's new A7 series firmware day! Where to look?

I thought the faster focusing was to take advantage of the feature for incoming lenses, notably the FE 70-200.  I took this to mean a focus distance limiter.

But I could be wrong.  Faster focusing would be a good thing.

Yes that was my guess too, so I could very well be kidding myself...it's hard to do an AB test when you only have one camera!

Af seems the same.

Start up to evf seems faster to me.  It used to bother me.  Now it's not instant but it's bearable

Yes definitely faster start up time.

I also used to find that the ISO dial (rear dial) would lock up on me and not be able to be changed while writing to the card which I used to find very very annoying. Now it seems to work just as you would expect it to, the other dials for Av and Tv always worked fine, but ISO used to just stop working for some inexplicable reason.

Really?!!?! Amazing - ISO dial delay was my biggest complaint of the camera!!!
