I am very excited for this!

Looks great, can bounce in portrait orientation too. Might hold off buying the Sony HVL-20M until this comes out. Could be quite useful on my A7r.

Thanks for posting.

Re: FINALLY! A small flash for our mirrorless cams.

They noted availablility in June 2014 for Sony.  Which Sony cameras is not noted.  I've got an A7 myself, this flash looks very inviting.

Re: FINALLY! A small flash for our mirrorless cams.

this site points to MIS compatible shoes

http://www.lightingrumours.com/nissin-i40-speedlight-announced-in-japan-5375#.UxzqpfldVZs

and on the nissin site it says

Supports Canon E-TTL/ E-TTL II, Nikon i-TTL and Sony ADI/ P-TTL.

I am pretty sure its for our MIS shoes

I am also hoping it has a good AF assist light also

It says it has AF assist so that will be good.

MIS shoe is the multi interface shoe on the a58, rx100mk2, a99, rx1, nex6, a6000, a7, a7r, etc

bascially the standard hotshoe with the little prongs near the front like this.

Wow, this thing is tiny for all the functions and range it provides. Definitely considering this for my NEX-7 via MIS adapter. Good find Ethan.

If this is real, I will KISS Mr. Nissen. And boo to Sony for this crazy new hotshoe that makes all my triggers useless.

My question as well...With NEX 7 with adapter, will I have full (E)TTL function, etc?

Very interested in this.

OTOH, Nissen likely considered Sony for this unit because of the "crazy new hotshoe". BTW, it is this crazy hotshoe that I share triggers in studio with Canon and Nikon shooters (since I don't have my own) and without an adapter, my iISO shoe equipped a55 is useless.

Re: FINALLY! A small flash for our mirrorless cams.

I envy you. I'd have to do some dicey physical modifications to my triggers to work with the new shoe. It's just a hassle. I really wish Sony could get their flash system right.

The AF assist light may not be compatible with mirrorless cameras, only DSLR bodies that support PDAF. I tried the Sony 43AM with NEX-7 with native emount lenses and a-mount lenses with LA-EA2 and the external AF assist light was not supported.

Can it be wirelessly triggered?  Does it do tilt AND swivel?
