First outing with NX1100
1

I mentioned a few days ago on another thread that I had an NX1100 on order. It arrived yesterday and I took it out for a short test drive this morning.

Not sure how it happened but having carefully set it to RAW + JPEG yesterday, I obviously managed to switch it back to JPEG before I went out.

The light was rather dull and therefore when I got back I still applied some extra clarity and saturation via my RAW processor (Capture One 7 Pro) on return. Considering the grey and unexciting light I think they turned out OK.

I've decided I like this camera!

Generally I am VERY impressed particularly with higher ISO output which seems better than my Pentax K-01 which in itself is pretty good at up to 3200.

The only real problem I have had so far (based on some RAW test pics I took yesterday) is that Capture One Pro doesn't yet support NX1100 .SRW files (although it does support NX1000 and using an Exif editor to change the camera model I can make it work with the NX1100 files). I've raised a request to Phase One to add support for the NX1100 and they are usually fairly quick at getting it into their next release.

So considering I got this X-Shop demonstrator NX1100 body for £120 it's been a real bargain to my mind.

Some very nice compositions, with some less than accommodating whether. You might try to boost local contrast in post - you'll find that NX RAWs are actually quite malleable in how much post processing they can take before things start to fall apart.

Entirely agree. Normally I would shoot RAW, but as I mentioned in the post I had inadvertently set the camera to JPEG only. Lesson learned I hope. I normally shoot RAW with my NX100 and Pentax K-01 but on this occasion I was quite impressed with what I managed to get out of the JPEG output, so all was not lost. My limited RAW files I've taken with the NX1100 so far do seem to indicate even more scope for extracting image than the K-01.

Thanks for your comments.

Re: First outing with NX1100

Hi Neil,
Congrats on the new camera. I've had the nx100/200/300 and I find that each evolution just makes it a better tool. There's a lot to like. I'm surprised the raw files aren't supported by C One Pro 7. I did have the same issue for my nx200 which they eventually fixed in a point release. The nx300 just works out of the box. I used adobe camera raw while waiting for them to provide support as per a recommendation on this forum and it got me by.
Image 2 really catches my eye. Thanks for sharing.
Regards,
Paul

Thanks Paul,

I'm really looking forward to spending more time with this camera especially when on holiday and when flying my aircraft. (some of my favourite aerial photos have been taken with the NX100).

I too used Adobe DNG Converter or ACR in PS Elements while I was waiting for Phase One to catch up for the NX100, but with my NX1000 "workaround" this seems an easier way to get by until it is supported properly.
